The issue of indigenous data sovereignty has also been raised—and predictably ignored—in the context of AI machine learning. This made me think that an analogy could be made between how creative makers feel when AI tech companies help themselves to things those makers have created, and how indigenous people feel when outsiders ignore their ownership of stories, songs, and other texts.
That, in turn, prompted the thought that AI is digital colonialism.
