TFW you have spent a couple of decades using ROM and MOL langsys substitutions to force the comma-like diacritic form for Şş and Ţţ, and encouraging others to do likewise, and then meet a Moldavian book designer who tells you a) that the cedilla form was historically common, and b) she wants to use the cedilla form but can’t because of heavy-handed font behaviour.
Time to stop forcing this and respect user text encoding? Or use ss feature to reverse langsys default?

@npub13g5…rpv3 Yes, they’re exactly that. Your term seems better than FontLab’s, but why not just ‘glyph axes’ as distinct from ‘font axes’?

@npub17yg…s5rv @npub1nx3…0y5n It isn’t clear from the account of the incident under what license, if any, the git repository content was made available. If it was OFL or another open license, it is hard to see what constitutes piracy, since the only distribution restriction in OFL is that a fee cannot be charged: distributing through a site based on advertising isn’t prohibited.
Distributing an in-progress project is unfortunate, but that’s why pre-release development is best done on a private repo.

@npub19lw…72hg Not if carefully done. Fonts are there to support typography, which is there to support text. If the text calls for primes, do what you need to do, and if no one notices, you’ve done it well.

@npub1urz…39sc @npub1x2c…gj6d I spent a while thinking about cross-script size balancing a few years ago, in the context of trying to come up with a multilingual improvement for CSS font-size-adjust. I think the only way to do it might be to have a standard model font (size=1) to which all other fonts have relative sizing.🤪
