I the context of the Skeena Indigenous project, I have been thinking a lot about indigenous data sovereignty. I have also been trying to come up with ways to explain to colleagues why this is important, and why we shouldn’t presume to help ourselves to texts that belong to indigenous communities, even if doing so will help us develop fonts and other tools that are intended to benefit those communities.
