And it was a challenge, despite my being Catholic, a fluent German speaker with an excellent German apprenticeship certificate, a citizen from birth, married to a German, and the latest in an unbroken chain of locally borne-and-raised ethnic Germanics dating back, verifiably, until at least the 1700s.
Like... you still had to integrate me. And it took decades of hard work, on both sides, just because I have a slight accent and tan a bit darker in the summer. Think about that. 😅
