Adolph (npub17eh…94rr), I was commenting on how ridiculous DMCA is, not what it contains. Clarify authors as copyright holder, and it becomes equivalent to cutting or picking the lock on your bike being illegal and providing the tools meaning jail time.
As for modification, interleaving ads would qualify IMHO (the file format is irrelevant, e.g. video and audio are separate files for the highest quality on YouTube but playback is considered to be a of a single medium). If the aderivation is legally recognized, ad blocking would counts as circumventing copyright protection and illegal. Since current DCMA came into existence, I have no doubt similar greed-driven laws will be written into laws.
