I recently remembered that my friend went through church marriage preparation courses. (Neither of them were believers but caved to family pressure, and it was a prerequisite to have their wedding in a church as unbaptized individuals). Surprisingly, it wasn't about church indoctrination, but actually offered really helpful guidance.
The course covered essential topics that should ideally be discussed by any couple before marriage: how many children each partner wants, approaches to finances, division of housework, living arrangements, etc. It also introduced conflict resolution techniques and addressed many common relationship questions and even got a little philosophical with open ended questions like
purrs_for_Her (npub166h…0thf) often asks.
It would be nice to normalize these types of courses as a standard practice for couples, perhaps even in place of focusing solely on big (and costly) weddings.
