She Cooks (npub15rh…n3my) There is a lot here I won't drill into. Just consider.. if renting is illegal and one can only ever own 1 house at a time, how can one ever leave? A person may lose their job and be unable to relocate, or stay in an abusive situation in this case to avoid homelessness.
Also, while I consider property management companies (the type that own apartments and multiple rental properties) to be one of the lowest forms of scum, there are good people that do rent a room of their own homes to friends in a tough spot. That kind of affordable relocation opportunity allowed me to change my career path. And later, for a time I was able to provide a room for a friend who was living in a rental property with no heat in a cold northern climate (until they eventually left to be closer to their job, because no car/poor public transit options). The rental company was likely breaking the law, but my friend's name wasn't on the lease and nobody in that house has the money to reach out to any kind of legal counsel.
More has to change. The issues are deeper than the housing system. But there are radical changes that need to be made in terms of banking, lobbying, and the power that wealthy companies leverage over governments and ordinary people. I don't have a quick fix for those.
Sometimes the option we CAN control is to do good for one another where we can, on a personal level, right now. Being kind to each other doesn't change the deeper issues, but it is the only way some of us will survive long enough to have a chance at making a difference. And we make the biggest difference together.
