It was huge news in Aus. In the 90s we had a real Republican movement with serious ppl involved and they got a referendum to become independent which failed - the monarchy had a lot of strength amongst Aussies back then.
We only had 2 TV channels back then and her funeral procession was on both. It was on every news bulletin and in all the papers and magazines. I remember finding it all weird even as a kid.
Her death and Kurt Cobain’s in the 90s had big impact in Aus. Hers on the oldies and Kurt’s on the younguns.
