Paying per article in advance, would probably lead to misleading titles or intro(a). Click baits.
When buying a newspaper in a shop, I can peek at the content, and then buy it.
So, the good model would be to allow peaking before buying. But, then how one enables to peek at any part of article, without allowing to read it fully for free. People do so in shops with newspapers, too. But, there's it's obvious. On internet it's anonymous.
