the problem with 5-10 free articles is anonymous browsing, and other methods, that can reset the counter.
I don't like paywalls, or monthly fees either.
Besides paying for unknown content in advance, it also locks people to single platform, because noone would like to pay monthly fee for multiple sites.
Though, one can change platform from time to time, I do so for Netflix and others. But, this might not be ok for news, where one wants latest news.
