You see normally ants with better vision have larger optic nerves. They also have larger eyes and more ommatidia in the compound eye cluster.
That's what you would expect to find. A body part is larger and more complex, more brain power is needed to process the information.
But the army ants still just have the one little light sensor for each eye. Lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. *puffs pipe*
