True. I’d say it’s got something to do with how 98% of us are into Bitcoin and thus root for the same team. We’ll see if it’s still like this when and if people who think differently join us. It’s easier to be anonymous here than on Twitter, so I’m not particularly optimistic about things staying this way forever. Hopefully I’ll be proven wrong though.

Sure. I use Muun Wallet.
But now that I think about it, if you just want to send and receive a few sats then try Wallet of Satoshi. They give you a free Lightning Address, it’s like an email address that you can put in your profile settings, and it allows you to easily receive sats. It’s not custodial though, so don’t store many sats there just in case, use Muun Wallet for that.

Well, I’d be wary of industrial production as a proxy of economic success. For example, Global South countries are fed up of just being massive factories and crave what the US has aplenty: research and development, marketing services, etc. They want to move up in global value chains, but it’s tough. Of course, there’s a social aspect to maintaining a certain degree of industrialization, namely keeping employment at politically acceptable levels, but the developed world should be careful about not mistaking the forest for the trees, IMO. Anyway, my humble 2 cents (or sats?).

I still find it mind blowing that Ukraine raised 20.000.000 dollars in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in the first 48 hours of the Russian invasion, before any official aid from friendly governments arrived.

I disagree. The CCP doesn’t have to please the Chinese population, many times it doesn’t, like it happened with the highly questionable COVID lockdowns. It’s a political class like we have in the West but with less checks and balances. Power is exercised through delicate arrangements between factions (see Hu’s removal from the party congress) with little regard for public opinion. Both confucianism and legalism, the main philosophical narratives guiding those in power, see society as something to be guided or shaped, not the other way around. In short, I wouldn’t say less socially advanced, but certainly not as similar to the West as the CCP would like us to think. Most westerners would find that kind of government outrageous.

TIL that since Argentina couldn’t place debt in the US financial market after the 2001 default, Venezuela bought a bunch of that then proceeded to repackage it with debt of their own in a CDO-like instrument, which allowed them to sell it… in the US financial market.
