@npub1alm…57vz Haven't there been cases where the panic reaction of the public from a disclosure caused more damage than that disclosure could have prevented?
Harm reduction might be more important that adherence to the literal truth. The "every gun is loaded" useful untruth.
I do wish the CDC an AR DOH did better tracking for my area, tho.

E.g. tying Edge to the OS, for the Linked-in key combination or something even stupider.

@npub1upk…tcwy Sorry, I will try to communicate better; that's not what I meant. I don't think that merges in general are bad.
It's just a commit topology like this is a good sign that none of the participants were considering the commit topology, so there's likely very little information that can be easily extracted from it.
I think merges are actually preferred when the branches are parallel, independent work. That's unlikely to be the only reason for a topology this "wide".

@npub1upk…tcwy In this case, where the historical participants clearly have ignored the topology of history, I discard the details when doing analysis, because "counting trees" doesn't tell me the "health" of this "forest".
I then *effectively* work with the linearization of history that git provides by default. Sometimes I _add_ --date-order but that's only after I narrow down to a much smaller tree, and want to consider "real time" instead of just topological order to try an give a "human" reason.

* I don't really agree. It might make the part "git-bisect" does more complex, but I have the same experience testing commits.
* So can a clean rebase.
* I don't know what this means, but you can can git for a one-sided diff with ease.
* rebasing can make actual history and commit history diverge in confusing ways, too.
* That's not been my experience --date-order has always been there for me.
But, I use both rebase and merge from time to time, so maybe I'm just used to the differences

@npub1n87…fvua @npub1ef3…5ag2 @npub1hyk…3p33 I have had be privilege of being able to force them to fire me (and then collect unemployment) because I refused to do something I found repugnant. I understand this is a harder choice to make when one had dependents.
This is an ancillary reason I support UBI. A paycheck should never be a Sword of Damocles / stick, only an incentive / carrot.

It would be nicer if it was easier to find. I couldn't find it in my mobile app at all, and I also couldn't find it from the post replies page on my instance.
Quite frustrating when two people start an unrelated conversation under one of your posts.

@npub1znz…8l64 Nice strawman. I never claimed package managers could not be attacked, only that they are strictly superior to "download and run" process.
I will admit the ease of use of SSL/TLS makes it a lot better than the bad old days, where you needed a step after the download just to make sure things weren't corrupted in transit.

Package managers are strictly superior for software distribution, IME. But, I've only been around for 43 years.
