One key to avoiding injury weight lifting as you grow older is to rotate through slower tempos (313 = 3 seconds up, 1 seconds hold, 5 seconds down). The slower tempos cause you tendons and connective tissue to get stronger. 1 second tempos won't do that. So the trap people fall into is their muscles keep getting stronger but their tendons don't and they injure their tendons at some point.

I am in the middle of reading Dune at the moment. I am pretty impressed at Frank Herbert's analysis of governments, culture, and the conditions necessary for humanity to thrive. Especially his concept of the butlerian jihad, which I think is widely misread as being anti technology. What I think he is objecting to is the use of technology to replace human risk taking and exploration with some elaborate but ultimately non-sensical technocratic framework that is expected to solve the garbage-in-garbage-out problem and which, if it were successful, would solve the halting problem. The closest match to what we are going through currently is not AI bullshittery, but the fiat money printer, which promises to remove risk from the process of discovering/producing useful goods and services.

That has to change as the firehouse grows in size as relays will take considerable resources to run but you have a good point that the nostr architecture allows you to access as much of the total raw feed as you want while incentivizing relay operators to monetize their retrieval services at commodity cost. Gatekeeping is not automatically encouraged like it is in twitter land.

Are you talking about BTC wallet key pair? Boot an air gapped laptop from tails/Linux USB, use electrum to generate seed phrase, write down on paper, and sign txs on air gapped laptop. Create master public key and write to USB then sneaker net to non air gapped laptop. Create unsigned txs on non air gapped laptop using electrum plus master public key.

A focus on building new skills, products and services tends to foster the growth of networks of good faith engagement, while a focus on winning arguments tends to foster (faster?) the growth of networks of bad faith engagement. Builders versus bickerers.
Even in the domain of argumentation, good faith networks win over the long term, because bad faith thought leaders turn on each other as they reach the scaling limits of inconsistency.

Changing the question to: what problems might the transition to Bitcoin bring that could be very challenging to solve?
A country with a fiat currency can wage war for much longer than a country that didn't print it's own money. It has the ability to gather more wealth and resources from the population during times of crisis.
I think the solution to this will require more willing shouldering of responsibility for keeping society safe by the bulk of the citizenry. I don't really know what form it will take.

I think you miss my goal. I am not trying to win argument with someone like Peter Schiff (who argues in bad faith), I am trying to help someone who argues in good faith but doesnt know much about bitcoin get past an obvious tripping point which otherwise shuts down their curiousity. Lots of people have trouble understanding why Bitcoin should have value given that no authority is backing it with an obvious commodity like gold.
And the timestamp server use case is a pretty fascinating use case to think about. It proves who knew (or agreed to) what when. This is a bottleneck of the legal / financial system, which makes some projects too difficult to coordinate.
The timestamp server function of Bitcoin removes this bottleneck, and may amplify the effectiveness of the legal/financial system to fund projects that would have been unthinkable before.

I think it's a fair question to ask about the non monetary use cases. Without a clear explanation of what those are, people have a hard time believing that it's value won't simply collapse at some point.
Asking what it's "backed by" may not be the best phrasing, but there is a well posed question hiding in there.

Keeping the growth rate of the Blockchain small is important so that lots of people can afford to run a full node. If it's rare for people to run full nodes, then the government can go after the few people who do for not respecting the ofac address black list. Also, unless you run your own node, you are telling the node your wallet connects to every uxto you own everytime you open your wallet and it tries to verify your balance.

I think Lionel did a great job of explaining how the fragility of our financial system should worry us more than climate change in the short term. And how nothing works once our trust in money erodes.
However, I think her "the government can do anything" point is sloppy thinking. If it could, it never would have allowed the internet to flourish the way it did. It's going to be a lot harder for the u.s. to ban bitcoin than she thinks.
