The internet disrupted. It helped us do what we did before, but faster. In some cases, better.
Social media disrupted. It allowed communication en masse, in aggregate, providing new visibility where it had never been.
AI is not going to disrupt. It's going to destroy. Shatter. Obliterate. It will not enable us to do what we did before but better or faster. It will REPLACE what we did before. It will replace what we have not even yet done. It will think for us, do for us--replace us entirely.
We have no idea what the new paradigm will look like.

Prediction: AI generated books just may be the unexpected development that brings back publishing "gatekeepers" and kills self-publishing. Some self pubbed authors will be fine bc they already have an established fan base that trusts them, but for unknowns, readers will buy from a publisher to know it's not some AI generated POS someone shat onto Amazon.
What a disaster.

Until it somehow starts costing governments money to deal with these discarded items, no legislators or private interests will care, so it won't get traction. But I am 100% on the same page as you. It is criminal how these companies blatantly force consumers to discard their perfectly functional hardware every 2-3 years as a business model. Case in point: I just had to replace a 5 year old Samsung tablet because my workplace updated our security requirements for work devices (it was a private device I chose to use for work and play), and the tablet had stopped getting security updates in 2020. Nothing wrong with the device except that it has been deemed "obsolete."
This wasteful, exploitive practice should be criminal.

Anyone in the #CentralNY or #WesternNY regions have experience with Mint Mobile? I've had Verizon forever, but in researching sustainable and repairable phone brands, it seems the big V has intentionally limited their service. Might be time for a change.

First season of Picard in the bag. First three episodes of Discovery season 1 in the bag.
I did not think for a moment that Discovery could meet or surpass the bar that Picard set for me, but holy hell, these new Star Trek shows are everything I could possibly want in a continuation (and prequel-ing) of what came before.
I don't have Paramount+ yet, but checked these out of my local library. I think, though, these may have convinced me to break my golden rule and begrudgingly subscribe to yet another damn streaming service.

I think it is worth noting that the two biggest movies in the world right now are both incredibly smart, unconventional, and highly critical of western power structures, if not outright pessimistic about the present and future of mankind.

I've been thinking more and more about doing my own #Audiobook for my novels. I think that's possible within my publishing contracts.
How do people feel about authors doing their own #audiobooks? Better or worse than a paid reader?
I used to do a couple podcasts a few years back, so I have the technical know-how, at least.
