That extra request is so fast in 2024, that it doesn't register on any meaningful performance scale. And if you go Lightning Address, there are already implementations that even convert that to ecash for example. It's pretty flexible on the back-end, and service providers can offer different settlements for it.

False alarm, but still a problem: the failed TLS connection came from someone else, but the site doesn't seem to send any verification email at all to me.

@npub1fh7…ee83 I'm a little perplexed: codeberg.org is the first email sender that I'm aware of to ever fail sending email to our mail server. It seems to be unable to establish a TLS handshake, even though we support all common TLS versions and ciphers...

Yes, exactly. I'm planning to create a pull request for the bridge to improve the metadata settings, because right now I have to add a separate line for the zap emoji/character and Lightning address. But it should:
* Try to match zap emojis in a metadata field that also contains other content
* Try to resolve the fediverse user address if no matching metadata field is present (because ours also resolve as Lightning address)

I have implemented NIP-57 for @npub1286…6nf2 accounts, so if you host an lndhub.go instance, you could use this as well (for all of LNURL, Lightning Address, and Zaps). Or you could steal some of the Ruby/Rails code and add it to your own service.

If I were to run a #fediverse instance for the official accounts of a small town, which implementation would you recommend?
Ideally, it'll be able to accommodate more post formats like e.g. events in the future, so extensibility would be a big plus. Built-in theming (colors at least) would also be a requirement, because I don't have the time to maintain a custom theme that potentially breaks when updating the software.
