and many, likely most, aren't. all that article says is that cocaine is popular among high income segments, nothing about trends or portion of the total market
the social democrats launched a campaign trying to reframe illegal drug use as a high income thing and a decadent 'party' behaviour in that population, with the purpose of convincing their middle class voters they're actually labourers and the party class conscious, which they really aren't

there is no 'the truth', that's an idea inherited from christian belief
what counts as truth is decided by power, it's an interpretation empowered by tradition, force or something else, like being distributed by journalists, which commonly are perceived as truthtellers due to this misconception about how truth functions and what they do
in general i get better news from people affected by an event or secondary sources in osint than i get from journalists

right, then we agree it's not a counter to the power of contemporary parliaments and their corporate stakeholders
as i see it, it's at best a mediator of popular power by transfering signals about risks of revolt, strike and similar phenomena to the elites which they might heed, so it's mostly an enemy of justice and popular mobilisation, and especially so when telling stories about the powerful, regardless of whether it's framed as negative or positive

i'm not so sure it does, and whether it does would be the poodle core here. war crimes in afghanistan were widely reported and thoroughly documented, and as far as i know it didn't make a dent in the empire. neither did the reporting about the us creating a permanent record in their datacenters about pretty much everyone on the planet, as leaked by snowden
i suspect storytelling outside journalism is just as good at getting news spread as journalists, and usian satire television seems

how would you argue for this view of journalism?
i mean, i'm well aware that this is how the press typically wants to promote itself, but i'm not convinced and see it as rooted in an early modern ideology around truth and power that in turn depends on christian belief, where truth has power rather than being an expression of power and to pass that hurdle it'd need to do away with marx, nietzsche and freud, among many others

surgeons aren't working class, because while they perform some work in their jobs it's something they themselves control and make decisions about
it's not specialisation that sets them apart from a cleaner, who's arguably much more specialised
journalists never had much power of their own, they've always been at the mercy of the institution of the king or parliament

not sure what you mean by specialist workers. workers are typically specialised, the division of labour is foundational in capitalism and one driving force in the development of administrative or middle classes
like journalists, doctors, teachers, people that make a living from the exercise or mediation of power over people. something like doctors making decisions while nurses perform the work, though sometimes there are somewhat grey areas, like surgeons, who end up below more

in crafts, no. the historical example we have of people challenging modern states and corporations would be the socialist industrial union, mainly in extractive and commodity producing industries
which is why the us engaged the mafia in undermining labour movements and democratisation in europe during the latter part of last century, as well as fascist guerillas, regular military forces and so on in other places

if you'd ask me i'd say journalists mediate power, it's even in the common name for this social phenomenon: mass media
most journalists don't try to threaten state or economic establishments, if you want an allegory from me it would be a workplace, where some people decide to go on strike. most journalists would then be scabbing, and a few join the strike
the reason most of them scab is that they'd lose income, housing &c. if they don't. e.g. thiel shrugged and gawker was no more

if you believe that all it takes is changing an agenda i'm not so sure your movement will recognise what useful or effective opposition to colonial power looks like, you might for example allocate resources i provide to lobbying in the eu and have their politicians sketch up yet another agenda and i'd think that's wasteful and disillusioning

even if we would focus specifically on liberalist property theory it's not one agenda, but several competing _traditions_, and that's just one umbrella of justifications among several
and as far as i know there are no serious scholars in this area that consider modern european colonialism mainly agenda driven
