Meet my new friend, the Spinybacked Orbweaver. Actually, there are two of them — one on each side of my front steps. At first they were blocking the steps a little, but they’ve adjusted their webs a bit higher and we are all on the best of terms now.

I just wanted to pick up some milk and salad, and there was a Whole Foods, so I went in. This store was weirdly organized, and the aisles were mostly full of cute little household goods and knickknacks. It was maze-like and went on and off, infinitely.
My father, who has limited mobility, was there and was struggling. I tried looking for help. The staffing was sparse and the employees were not helpful. I tried carrying my father. I tried going ahead to scout. 1/3 #degrowth #polycrisis

Occasionally I have a variant of that, where I planted a garden and then forgot about it. Or, one time, I had an aquarium and forgot about it.

Oh 💩my #covid cautious friends — help me think through this.
My daughter and her wife are currently at daughter-in-law’s family home. Her mom has had a “bad cold” for three days w/ no fever and negative tests each day.
All plan to test again tomorrow before daughter and wife come here for a Christmas visit of a few hours.
We have good ventilation here, filters, pre-testing, etc.
Reasonably safe? Am I missing anything? Bless my dear child for being contentious about this.

@npub17a9…mv9a This is a very typical. There is only so much you can do with someone who is legally a competent adult free to make their own choices. Sometimes the best you can do is roll with events as they happen — and they will happen.
It’s helpful to have a local set of eyes who will give you a call — the friendly neighbor who says, “Your mom just left her apartment in an ambulance.” Maybe MIL could be persuaded to have one of those home monitoring services?
