Arctic sea ice grows and shrinks during the year (seasonal cycle). It reaches its annual minimum extent at the end of every summer (early-mid September).

Some of the largest temperature anomalies in the #Arctic last month were observed in northern Canada with departures up to 8°C above the 1981-2010 mean baseline. Cooler conditions were found in Greenland however.
