fwiw if anyone's looking for a "church of baste", you're not going to find it save maybe a few sede/sspx chapels. (possibly also small independent prot/evangelical churches too, haven't looked.)

$50 will **maybe** get you an 8 port box on amazog to hook up some farm phones, possibly with a neighbor connection or two depending on the distance. you'll still have to power it and buy all the cables, jacks, phones etc

iirc there were a number of safeguards built in (that have all been removed or ignored):
u.s. senators were originally appointed by state govts, not popular elections
taxes were apportioned (paid by state govts to the federal), rather than direct income taxes
no standing army (lol)
money defined as gold & silver coins (no central bank)
