Today I biked 60 miles, made a pizza, attended an online meeting, did 2 loads of laundry, finished packing a bicycle for shipping, injected myself with medication (the biggest deal of the day), juiced some vegetables, helped a friend set up a mic/headset, contacted a screen printer for a quote, and probably some other stuff. Whew.

Crohn's is not curable. But with the right drugs it can go into remission. The drugs are immunosuppressants, designed to de-activate whatever part of my immune system decided attacking my colon was a good idea. As long as I take the drugs (moving to home injections every 8 weeks), I will not have symptoms (or open bloody lesions in my colon). I will eventually develop antibodies to it and have symptoms again; if society still functions by then, I will have to try different drugs to find a new one that works.

My Crohn’s disease remission was celebrated yesterday with a Chocolate Cake Test. I haven’t had any chocolate for 3.5 months because it triggers symptoms. Sisters, I PASSED THE TEST! I can have chocolate again (until I develop antibodies to Skyrizi)!

Oh I am juicing all of them, removing the insoluble fiber. I have been able to have juice throughout my disease, in fact Crohn’s forced me to get a good juicer which paradoxically vastly increased my intake of fresh fruits. My drug infusions are working also so I am eating a lot more solid foods now, but the fruits I am drinking.

I've been spending so much on fresh raspberries for my juices that I decided to try frozen. They're really good -- frozen at peak ripeness instead of surviving days or weeks on grocery fridge shelves. Also less expensive of course.

I bought 2 pints of strawberries today because they were only $.99 each. Just washed and juiced them. They taste terrible and I will probably throw the whole batch out.
Store also had “champagne” mangoes, which I’d never tried, for $1 each (a 7-for-$7 thing, but I could mix and match so I ended up with 4 mangoes and 3 avocados).
And although ripe, the mango I peeled and cut up is SOUR.
I hope the gigantic pineapple isn’t a disappointment.

Recent-onset Crohn’s disease has forced my diet to radically change. So now I’m living on fiberless white starches (rice, peeled potatoes) animal protein (fish, eggs, lactose free dairy) and most of all fresh fruit and vegetable juices. It’s not what I would have chosen but at least it’s relatively unprocessed. The fresh juices are amazing actually, they make me feel great even if they contain a lot of (natural) fructose.

After a few nosebleeds I succumbed to pressure to get a humidifier. Here it is misting away. It has a tiny little drawer thingy to put essential oils in, so I added a few drops of a sample I bought years ago (a blend called “stress relief”) and it’s kinda nice.

There’s a lot to trash, and complaints against Illy’s sartorial choices have merit.
I think some feminists are now making arguments in favor of gender and the “gender critical” label holds them back. I don’t like gender and push against it, but it’s increasingly clear that gender serves some protective function, which may be why all societies have it. Perhaps gender (including gendered clothing) makes a symbolic “space” such that when men violate it, they set off alarms prior to violating women’s physical spaces and bodies. That is a social good and protects women. But there’s always a tension between security and liberty, and if gender offers security it does so at the cost of freedom.
I’d like feminists to debate gender openly in good faith, and those who favor it to make strong arguments.

This is a good and appropriately skeptical review of Phil Illy's book about Autogynephilia/autosexualities.
I don't like the way Illy has been trashed for wearing a dress at the Genspect conference. His worst ideas should be trashed on their own merits.
I had no problem with Illy being at the conference, in his typical blue-dress outfit (in every photo and video I've seen of him he's dressed similarly). However, Matt Osborne's suggestion that Phil could start a cult makes me nervous about my sight gag du jour. I wore this because someone tweeted, "no real woman would dress like that!" and of course them's fightin' words. Oh well.

Yes I know! So you stack them and store the lids on the same shelf and/or in the same bin, as I am doing now. You don't separate them and then fill 2 bins and a colander with lids you stuff into a back shelf behind the crock pot in an under-counter cabinet in another part of the kitchen.

I just culled about 100 plastic containers from my Mom's plastic container hoard, leaving only the ones with lids that fit (about another hundred).
Mom had this great system where she'd store the containers in the pantry, and the lids separately on a shelf in the back of a low cabinet elsewhere. It drove me crazy.
