i've also seen the show you're referencing. i have mixed feelings about it, but it illustrated one thing very well: a drive for money can easily nudge people into very unethical directions. (if that's not already obvious from the US's and entire economic structure lol)

i've read some of your writing, and i liked it. i've considered something like, "if a journal asked me to write for them for pay, would i do it?" and in that situation, the answer would likely be maybe yes. i can do something i enjoy for someone else, maybe, but my own projects will be free, and i guarantee you i would burn out or start cutting corners for that someone-else publication because it's not my passion to write for someone else and their whimsy. so maybe not, changed my mind.

first, you're an excellent photographer. and you could make money doing it. but should you, really? i wrestled with this question for my publication and my writing (of course i dedicate about 90% of my free time to), but the answer was a fairly quick "no." i outline why in a few of my essays, but the core reasoning is summed up fairly well (tooting my own horn) in the first issue of a *free* magazine i make.

i'm interested in building a #WriteFreely server as a sort of federated communal forum for writers of all sorts. problem is, i have no technical knowledge of SQL and have never done anything like this before. any easy-to-follow guides on this sort of thing? #fediverse #writing #blogging #SQL
