I saw someone post the results of a poll that some 20 (?)% of people used generative AI for their job now and I have to wonder: how much of that was for bullshit work that didn't actually need to be done anyway?

Even in the best work places, it seems like the messaging is "you *can* stay home when sick"
It really needs to shift to "you *must/should* stay home when sick"
Watching sickness rip through my work, causing a lot of time out, and it's entirely unnecessary. We've learned nothing at all from the last 4 years

@npub1gmx…atcq same for me. I know it's not so for everyone- I've seen the weird replies people get- but for me it's been so much more... mild, I guess? I can't even be mad at the reply guys, they mostly seem like an earnest, clueless group rather than actively malevolent

I guess it's easy for you, but that doesn't mean it is for everyone

@npub135d…tg9k @npub1483…lv2w I'm in my small office, the person in the office next to me with probably shared ventilation is coughing up a storm. Do I mask? Or, I'm in a cubicle. I go to a meeting with 3 people, 5, 8, 30? It's 0 or 100 degrees out, do I risk sneaking a bite in the lunchroom? These simple "assessments" can get exhausting when scaled up day after day week after week
Those experts you speak of all have slightly different advice at different times in different locations

I picked @npub1hyk…3p33's "Down and out in the magic kingdom" as a book for book club, it's been years since I read it.
A weird thing is: I could have SWORN I first read the book in '98, when I was still living in California and going to Disneyland weekly. But it wasn't released for 5 years after that, my mind just kinda projected the experience back in time I guess 🤷
