Nature is cool and all, but I also love all the cool old industrial scenery you can see when traveling by train in the USA. It’s all along the tracks everywhere and can be overwhelming when so many buildings or signs are rushing past and you can’t stop to look closer.

🚨DRAMA ON THE RAILS🚨
During dinner on my long-distance train, an older man accidentally slid down off his bench and got stuck partway under the table.😣
After much effort from the crew, 911 was called for help. In the mean time I asked for a screwdriver and, with help from others, dismantled the table, setting the man free.🙌
The 911 responders arrived shortly after, but they were armed cops for some reason and not EMTs.🤔
Anyway, everyone is fine and the train is moving again.😅

My 80-hour train journey from Portland to NYC has been great so far. Had a layover in Seattle yesterday and then was lucky to get a seat on the water side of the train on the way out.

📰📕 Roll call for news and publication designers active on Mastodon.
Some of my favorite design is from those fields but either those corners of the community haven’t embraced Mastodon as much (compared to, say, web and typeface designers) or – hopefully – I just haven’t found as many of them yet.
Friend shout-outs and self-references are welcomed, even for people I already follow. Glad to know about people designing for anything from tiny zines to big publications, in print or digital format.

Hadn’t thought about the “Font Forging Industry” website in years until today, and it’s even more bonkers than I remembered. It’s like a portal back in time with some of the weirdest takes on the type design industry from the ’00s, but still notable as probably the only remaining documentation for some of the early digital fonts mentioned there.
