@npub1c5c…644a It's so odd how some people can eat that hiking food for such long periods. I began my last hike with a delicious fish soup from self-supplied ingredients!

@npub1c5c…644a We wouldn't use the flimsy UL tents or compromise on food or hiking boots in Finland because the weather is so hard and many times you are not on a trail at all, especially in the highest north.
But sometimes I have to carry wading gear so it's good to reduce weight where I can.

@npub1c5c…644a Thanks! I'm not fully ultralight either but took some tips to good use. A water filter, a small gas stove, and hiking poles come to mind.

@npub1c5c…644a Does PCT stand for the trail that some through-hike? Interesting stuff on ultralight gear that I've seen on YouTube and did also apply now in Finland.

@npub1c5c…644a Thanks! My outdoor club got some to share and I've used them a lot lately. I have a difficult hip injury so this is an awesome way to cover long distances with heavy loads.

Good morning! This part of the lake is very remote from human habitation: 40 km to the nearest town, 10 km on gravel roads and 5-6 km of paddling with the packraft.
The emblem of the National Park is the brown bear, of which there are many here. Gladly they rarely cross paths with people.

@npub10lc…7wpc Finnish lifestyle in the country is still about fishing, some hunt, picking berries and mushrooms.
This is rare in the developed world because we have Public Access Rights so it’s for free.
Being out hardens you up in the winter. We also have an open hut culture in the Nordics: you can stay for a night or two but these are remote and you have to have skills.
I don’t stay in hotels, luxury cabins or resorts because it’s consumerist and a waste of money.
