I don't believe that an IT career was actually choice. Rather, it was the only possible path for me; the only thing I could do. And even today, when thinking of working in IT makes me sick, I can't figure out anything else that I could do for living. What's even worse, I'm not even sure if I'm still fit to do IT for living.
As you can guess, as a kid I couldn't connect with others. Since I've gotten my first computer pretty early (while most of my peers either didn't have any machine, or had video game consoles), it became my main pastime. Given that Internet access was not for many years to come, and I didn't have that many games either, I've started hacking. And I was good at it.
Let's fast forward a bit; I discover #FreeSoftware, find my purpose here and people who are like me. I finally find a good job. Everything seems to be going great; well, maybe perhaps for personal affairs but that's another story. Unfortunately, the good didn't last.
IT became popular. At first I thought it was good; I'll finally stop being a "boring weirdo". But I was wrong. Many "more interesting" people came. And with them, more businesses came. I suppose most people think of Internet when they mention "enshittification", but in my opinion it affected the whole IT sector.
Programmers aren't who they used to be. Your technical skills no longer matter; they want social skills. And social skills primarily mean lying and deceiving. It doesn't matter whether you can write good software or debug problems. What really matters is whether you can convince the boss that you're doing something useful, and the client to buy some junkware.
What's even worse, free software people changed. More and more I feel like they either aim to monetize everything, or at least to play "enterprise". I find it harder and harder to connect.

Many people on the spectrum have various difficulties communicating with others. As a result, we become discouraged from conversing, and effectively make it much harder to make friends and keep our friendships in good shape. Sometimes we misunderstand what others are saying and we become humiliated. Other times others misunderstand us and are offended by what we said. Or conversations in a group are so livid and chaotic we simply can't manage to say anything.
Combined with other problems we have, the highest form of friendship for us is with a person who lets us be ourselves. Someone we managed to trust and someone we opened up to. And that ain't easy.
I find it easier to trust some people than others. And I suspect that there are people that I couldn't trust ever, no matter how hard they would try to gain my trust. Then, in addition to my best wishes, there's the matter of the right environment. I don't open up on a busy pavement or crowded park. Things like that are hard to say, and I can't do that when some passerby would force me to stop mid-sentence by entering the hearing range.
We can spend a lot of time with such a person and enjoy it. I'm talking of a person that knows our biggest weaknesses, that don't force us to keep constant watch over our behavior, or to worry all the time that something could happen. You could say such relationships don't drain our social battery (at least directly, there's still some drain e.g. from leaving our home). Unfortunately, this comes with a risk: if that person fails our trust, we're going to find it even harder to trust anyone.
The second category are "regular" acquaintances. We also find joy in spending time with them, but it drains our battery. And it becomes problematic if they expect more from us than we can actually provide. In the worst case, sometimes we abandon these acquaintances when things go really bad for us.
Then, there are conversations with random people. Sometimes they are joyful, sometimes not. Their main advantage is that we can reasonably assume we're not going to meet them again. Sometimes this makes talking to them easier — but also sometimes we end up regretting that we won't.

I suspect some people may think that using #MongoDB is good idea. So I'll just drop here, how in #Gentoo we need to split the test suite of #PyMongo into 3 batches, and restart the server between them, because otherwise it crashes after performing too many queries. But I'm sure it's a great software in production.

If you use a "woman-facepalming" or "man-facepalming" #emoji in #Mastodon web interface, and try to delete it via backspace, it will turn into a "person facepalming" (which for some reason is missing on both of my instances).
This is because both these emojis are a ZWJ (Zero Width Joiner) sequences:
🤦‍♀️ is actually 🤦 (U+1F926) + ZWJ (U+200D) + ♀️ (U+2640 U+FE0F).
🤦‍♂️ is actually 🤦 (U+1F926) + ZWJ (U+200D) + ♂️ (U+2642 U+FE0F).

The most recent #Django releases, 5.0.5 and 4.2.12 are broken. Most likely they were done on #Windows, and that obviously is sufficient to break stuff.
So far, we've noticed the following issues:
1. The directory is named lowercase `django-X.Y.Z` instead of capital-case `Django-X.Y.Z` (the filename remains capital-case).
2. All files have CRLF line endings instead of LF.
3. All files that should have the executable bit, have lost it.
As a result, the releases don't pass their own tests.
I hope to report this upstream, but their Trac is down now. So you can't even download the releases right now.

Am I missing something or is it basically impossible to have `cargo update` actually select dependencies that are acceptable for the specific minimal `rust-version`? Like, even if you install old #RustLang version, `cargo update` from this version will update `Cargo.lock` to dependencies that require a newer Rust version and render the package non-buildable?
So yeah, I suppose you either end up requiring newer Rust (but you don't really know which version, since you don't know what's the highest minimal requirement in your dependencies), or you update `Cargo.lock` by hand. Such a great tooling!

Time for your daily dose of #RustLang complaints. Yep, the ecosystem is doing great.
#UV depends on tokio-tar library. Tokio-tar is broken on #PowerPC, doesn't have a bug tracker (!) and seems to be quite dead, with a bunch of PRs ignored since 2022 (last activity mid-2023). Nevertheless, I've filed a PR to fix PowerPC, with little hope that it'll be merged, released and that we could get UV working on PowerPC.
On top of that, it seems that tokio-tar was forked in early 2021 from async-tar. It doesn't seem to have synced the few commits from 2021, and async-tar is dead since late 2021. But at least it has a bug tracker to keep track of how dead it is.
Rewriting stuff in Rust is great. Maintaining it afterwards for the sake of reverse dependencies isn't.

I'd like to finally move my private email out of GMail. So, Fedi, what email provider would you recommend?
What I need:
• reasonably professional (i.e. that I wouldn't have to worry about suddenly being locked out for my "security", or having mail dropped)
• free or very cheap (i.e. something a person with no income could pay for without feeling very bad about it)
• support for a custom domain + catch-all (I want to be able to use unique addresses on-the-fly)
• direct IMAP support (i.e. no special apps required)
