heard about Roseman's controversial license (also known as FUTO / sourcefirst), and the controversial things happened with GrapheneOS.
Checked the license, I would say this is not open source license, But rather an source-available license, **with chains**. To put it simply, You're free unless you did what FUTO doesn't like, Which is putting commercial service.

The problem that i usually saw on some communities like Linux or Tech in general is that they're dodging whatever that makes them disgusted or hate to talk about.
Especially when someone talked about it, They decided, "Let's not talk about that." and then deleted your message. The problem here is that you don't know what does that actually mean.
It won't make people stop thinking but rather ended up being more curious, and that's the biggest problem itself.

You could do this anyway, But it’s definitely not recommended if done excessively as you may ended up making yourself harder than you supposed to be
not everyone could read code even if the code is designed to be readable especially with the amount of complex symbols and types that nerds don’t know about.
about the zen browser alone, the dev acknowledged the mistake in the end is enough than nothing. from that reason, your suspicions makes sense, but do you need to be reminded how young this project was?

I generally don't recommend it. it's stupid but understandable.
you are expected to either trust the dev of the app and stuff. the paranoia is understandable, but it's definitely unnecessary.

I must say that the Anime implementation focus may be outside of what it should be. It's too focused on the romance side while missed one or more details.
