Currently at the crossroads of figuring out a new job pathway, ...
- I really liked working with craftcms, this would mean trying to get another - potential stressful - agency developer job.
- Also I would love to work towards a purpose (as developer), like „fighting the climate emergency“ - but these jobs are not advertised (yet?)

@npub10gx…x9jm I personally had a hard time with this as well - since I invest a lot of my personal time into demos & learning resources 👉 doing this for an open source community just feels "more justified" / better. 🤷
But I know this discussion from #KirbyCMS as well - it is required for financial sustainibility.
Wish there would be some middleground, because people motivated by the idea of "open source (communities)" will not easily switch to Kirby, Craft, etc. because of that 4/4

@npub10gx…x9jm There is also a potential blocker for hobbyist since they like the open source model for pet projects or clients with tiny budgets. So craft is no option for them currently.
They start by using 1-click WP installers in their webhosters dashboard - and start their project from there. And pay like 2-7€ for unlimited WP sites. Not the target group of craft currently - but these are people how could form a wider community 🤷 I personally had a hard time with this as well. 3/3

@npub10gx…x9jm Agencies and freelancers could be convinced, they maybe rely on a more professional approach like https://roots.io/sage/ already. Which is more like CraftCMS.
But the cost to switch is building a new base theme for them and getting confident in deploying and running craft + getting confident / choosing the best plugins. Just one example: Selecting a forms plugins - since this is crucial.
The pathway could be improved for making the switch? Currently it's a lot of work? 2/

@npub10gx…x9jm the challenge it's not ACF itself, the challenge for the switch is most likely ...
- learn to use Composer, especially deploy with it (many devs still use SFTP upload to just upload the updated child theme directory for WordPress)
- replacing the plug & play approach - install a theme, add plugins which already ship the frontend code and display stuff
- offer alternative to the page builder approach like Elementor, Divi, etc.
- WP has pages and blog posts structure by default

Interesting catch about public transport in #Budapest: While in Berlin and Vienna a single trip ticket includes bus, tram and metro with unlimited transfers (as long as you go into one direction) - in Budapest there is only the transfer between metro lines allowed. For each new bus and tram you board, you need to validate a new ticket.

Almost 4 years as agency developer. Started as junior & came to realization that the mental well-being often depends on the project (and constraints) you're in and overall profit is most important to keep an agency going (No sh*t, Sherlock).So it's always a risk to lose yourself in project struggles - a major skill is to keep calm & don't invest too much of yourself in projects / distance yourself?
Advantage is that you have clear outcomes in projects, thing I missed in HigherEd projects.
