Yeah, I see your point about not wanting to promote scams. At the end of the day the user has the responsibility to decide what they determine to be a scam. It's not the responsibility of the devs. Giving choice is not necessary promoting scams. I'm thinking of something like linking an open source wallet like Cake Wallet.
I disagree that nostr is a Bitcoin thing. Bitcoiners built it, but it's bigger than Bitcoin. If it is limited to Bitcoin we limit its network effect and compromise it's ability to be adopted. It will become a niche network that withers as a similar, more open protocol gets adopted more widely

Yeah, but for people who don't get Bitcoin, there isn't really any way of paying for relays. Most people associate Bitcoin with scammers and are going to stop listening as soon as it is mentioned unfortunately. These people may be interested in freedom of speech or the ability to own your own identity and following, but dismiss nostr because using it required them to also be interested in Bitcoin.
The same is true for people into crypto. Nostr is a killer for most niche shitcoins because it can do what most token projects try and achieve using Bitcoin, which has better stability and network effect. Bitcoin would naturally come to be used if we allowed a free market. But by insisting on Bitcoin only, we are doing the same thing that shitcoins do, but with Bitcoin. But making clients that can use multiple crypto currencies we would undermine them by exposing to Bitcoins network effect.
The former group is more important but the second is a good thing to do on principle to demonstrate that nostr doesn't care what monetary unit it uses.

Bitcoin is friction, Bitcoin only is more friction. The beauty of nostr is that it isn't token dependent, yet so much seems to be Bitcoin only. As much as I love Bitcoin, I think to grow nostr needs to make Bitcoin an option rather than the only choice. This would show case nostr as the open protocol. At the moment it's understandable why people think it is just a web3 token dependent platform.

Bitcoin wins because the network effect of it's first mover status gives it the ability to make the best tradeoffs. This ensures it maintains its network effect.
Privacy is important. Bitcoin needs to do better here, when it does monero will trend to zero. The only threat is ignorant node runners believing a lack of privacy is a good thing, blocking protocol enhancements.

I would push back that Bitcoin lacks privacy and eventually scaling. I think Saylor has a conflict of interest in Bitcoin not developing so he can offer a banking solution to scaling. It's in his interest for Bitcoin to be state sanctioned to minimise regulatory risk. It's also in his interest for society to be highly governed to provide security for his billions.

There definitely needs to be a nip for a dating profile. Mainly for the nip puns, but also because the financial incentives for dating apps are broken. They make more money if you stay single and keep paying for greater access levels. If they show you the perfect match first up there is not much scope to make you pay more. Algorithm competition could solve this. Also, zaps to the developers as spam deterral aligns incentives for quality, genuine matches.

I'm 100% in Bitcoin and agree with the network effect thing, but am becoming concerned at Bitcoins lack of privacy. Monero was issuing 50 coin blocks every 2 minutes up until the beginning of last cycle, that probably explains the price crash better than lack of use. Bitcoin and crypto in general is in a price discovery phase. When it comes to adoption and spending, privacy is a 10x improvement. I anticipate Bitcoin will adopt sufficient privacy, but I'm starting to doubt.

You don't need to be a hardened node running Bitcoiner for Bitcoin to affect your vote. Most people I know have Bitcoin on a crypto exchange. If the government were to ban it and the value went down, they would be pissed enough for it to swing their vote.

We nearly burnt down the house when the bbq caught fire in the garage, melting the gas hose, making a flame thrower. Fortunately the hose stayed directed on the table and the sound of the falling bbq got out attention. If the hose had fallen off and ignited the car it could have been a lot worse. We managed to save the roast by cutting off the outter layer.

Kopi Luwak, otherwise known as cat poo coffee. The green beans are fed to the Luwak animal, which digest the bitter taste but pass the beans. The beans are then washed (hopefully) and roasted, resulting in a less bitter coffee.
As an espresso the beans tasted slightly too acidic and would be better suited for a flat white or cuppa chino.

You are collating two things
1. Everyone can own their own UTXO
2. Use it for everyday transactions
1 is important, 2 is not.
Most people should use e-cash for everyday use. A UTXO would be used in a similar fashion to moving money into a high interest term deposit - where you hold the majority of your money but only make a transaction once a month to once every few years, depending how wealthy you are. A lightning channel to the eCash would allow the balance that's held by the custodian to be minimal.
If a transaction fee exceeds the $10 -100 range even this breaks down.

If you think one side of politics is better than the other you have been played. Once your vote is captured there is no incentive for them to act on the issue you want. They need to ensure the issue is always a problem and that they appear to be the only side fighting for it.
In Australia it was the conservative party that took away guns, that introduced GST, that introduced same sex marriage, that introduced some of the harshest COVID lockdowns and that increased the money supply by 40% in one year in response to COVID.
They do this because the goal is open because everyone thinks they are fighting against those things.

I'm not worried about screenshots, most people understand not to do that. Rebroadcasting because they didn't realise it was a private relay that I had given them access to is more of a worry. If that can be stopped that's great. We probably need a way for people to buy virtual relays. I don't want to share pictures of my family publically, but if I could get them onto nostr I would like to in a way only they can see.

Nostr is good for real world relationships because you see who you follow without getting burried by an algorithm. However, it is very text focused. Facebook grew by using games, then once you had built a network of friends you could see what your friends were posting. This overcame the chicken and egg scenario with building a social network.
A daily challenge game like sukudu or wordle where you can see your friends score would be great. It could be embedded into websites like the NY Times have done to wordle, but because it's nostr the same game could be played on different sites or dedicated apps and you could see the results of all your friends, wherever they played the game. This could easily get a greater network effects than wordle. Every site that's not NY Times has an incentive to get on board to offer something that doesn't take people to their competition.

It's basic incentives. If Bitcoin is expensive on the base layer, users need banks to hold it for them. This allows all the shady practices of traditional banking to continue. Bank runs are difficult because the network becomes congested and fees climb prohibitively high. Anyone who holds a lot of Bitcoin can become a bank and profit off others. Whether it's Saylor or Swan, BlackRock or Coinbase, this is their incentive.
But Bitcoin is controlled by proof of work, not proof of stake.
Miners are incentivised to maximise on chain transactions, fees x volume. If the fees prevent transactions they would rather scale the base layer.
Users are incentivised to control their own keys to prevent losing funds and having the value of their Bitcoin diluted by fractional reserve banking. They also want the lowest cost nodes, so would rather scale through permissionless scaling solutions.
The block size wars were users vs miners, users prevailed with the UASF for taproot which enabled lightning for scaling, rather than large blocks. There are limits to lightning which is becoming clear.
The next will probably be users vs bankers.
In Bitcoin, be ready to burn your heroes.
