I'm pretty sure it's the one, I had watched. I don't want to watch it again, though. Still am shocked by it after such a long time.
If it is that video, it shows the entire scene & the video stops exactly at the moment, before they start shooting. So, you may see his last moments on YouTube, right before collapsing from fatal gun wounds.
The back story is basically, that some moron wannabe lawful idiot reported him to the police about a "rifle" he had, but in fact it was just a gun for playing around. He showed it to everyone & everyone was enjoying this fun toy. The moron wasn't at the party & literally assumed, that everyone on the party must be somehow part of the conspiracy, where everyone just blindly accepts a guy with an actual rifle. This is what the guy calling the police must've thought, else he wouldn't have called it.
Or he did not think at all. Most US Americans call the police whenever they don't understand something. They always presume the worst.
For example, there is another guy who literally walked on a car parking area, without going into a car, so the police was called on him, because it was "unusual". Things like these are the most US American shit there is. #FuckUSA
Well, anyway, I digress...
So, the killers arrive & put the victim into this stressful situation, as seen in the video. They were basically doing some Guantanamo styled power play, right there. So, of course, he made the mistake of moving his hand too quickly, which made the young officer fill him with bullets until the victim dropped dead.
Needless to say, the murderer was never in prison. He just changed his work location & still lives off US American taxes.

Well, finished it watching, now. That's the load of bull, I already expected.
It's also important to emphasise that the video "explaining" it is basically spreading propaganda about what Apple does to its users via iCloud. The guy in the video did not mention even ONCE that the algorithms used for this "DNA" are faulty & proven to misidentify perfectly harmless pictures as being linked to this type of horrible crime.
This is another #FuckUSA moment, because being reported for this picture is just dumb as fuck.
If you just send this screenshot, it does not mean you have any relation whatsoever with the video the screenshot was taken from. It's literally just a screenshot.
I have also proof of this idiocy.
For example, there's live footage of American police (#FuckUSA btw.) killing an unarmed man, begging on the floor with automatic rifles.
The first part of this video is freely available & tolerated on YouTube, because it stops right before they start shooting.
The same way, this screenshot itself is harmless. The video where the screenshot was taken from is NOT available, when you just send this one screenshot. Therefore, the screenshot is harmless & must be perfectly legal. It does not do, show or make you do anything illegal. It's a screenshot of a random ugly looking guy. Nobody on Discord probably ever saw the video in the first place, so why ban people for this screenshot.

Like, if you run it via Web Hosting, is it yours?
If you run it on a generic VPS, is it yours?
If you run it on your machine through proprietary software, is it yours?

Well, "who knows" does not guarantee it will happen.
I have experience with #Peertube etc. & all these technologies have shown me, is that #decentralisation starts to crumble on huge media files, because even if everyone with a computer shares some space, it will still be smaller, slower & less available than an incredibly huge #Google funded datacenter filled with top notch performance machines.
I don't really see any #decentralised service ever replacing something like #YouTube, in its fullest, without sacrificing a LOT.

I just discovered an ingenious little tool, making your #Shell life easier off #Linux.

Okay, let me give you an example of only actual humans, based on my real experience on #Nostr.
After I joined, I followed various accounts, mostly lead by humans. For the sake of this explanation, I don't count in any non-humans.
I followed an art related npub, which is lead by a human.
This npub shared tons of posts *every single day*, while other humans shared something maybe once in two days or sometimes less.
Even the humans who posted once or twice a day, were completely suffocated by the amount of content from this one artsy npub.
From this experience one of the first npubs I unfollowed was a human, who posted nice arts but it was way too much & often for me & my feed ecology.
Wouldn't this use case perhaps apply to a scenario in your feed?
Or are you already weeding out such potential problems by not following them in the first place?
In this example, I would've loved to have the option to mute all posts of the artsy channel & instead get a summary of the most liked posts of the week, or whatever criteria.

For me, it's the absolute opposite.
I was annoyed, when #YouTube changed its star rating system to like & dislike. Now it's only like, anyway.
The same way I never understood how people just "follow" everyone the same way, when clearly not all followed deliver content of exactly the same quality for you.
I have this issue on #GitHub & now on #Nostr, as well.
Like, everyone follows each account for different reasons.
Would you put RSS bots in the same category as literal humans traveling around the world? I think, not.
So, I basically experience a feed with lots of crap, because everything is in the same pool of "followed" npubs.
I want to follow all, but I'm not interested the same way & same degrees in all the content each npub publishes.
Therefore, especially the Super Follow & Follow thing makes absolute sense to me.
Like, I already had to unfollow so many people on #Nostr, simply because they crap up my feed with too many posts. I want to follow them, but I simply cannot, due to the lack of such a filtering & categorisation mechanic.

Nope, not a client problem. It depends on how you connect to the services, through which network & how many relays allow your requests to go through etc.
If it works well for you, you maybe don't have a lot of different connections & the servers are more available to you. I don't know.

The biggest problem I see right now is the first use experience. The first 15 minutes you use a product determines whether you continue using it or likely drop it forever.
When you just start #Nostr & you wanna see anything, all Relays have to be queried first, etc. At first, everything is empty.
Happens as well, when you delete the cache of the #Nostr app you use.
People are so used to instant access, it's probably a pretty big blocker to wait for Relays to finish loading the feed, especially in Global, basically like viewing an image in Internet Explorer during 2003.

Funny that you ask, because I wanted to post about it already, anyway.
Many years ago, I was a happy owner of a smartphone with an actual physical keyboard. Was the best thing ever. Not a #Blackberry, btw.
Since then, it was apparently "cool" to not ever offer physical keyboards again, but do everything via touch, even if touch was still unreliable back then.
Nowadays, touch has become pretty sophisticated & reliable, but I still don't like how imprecise it is.
I tried a lot of #FLOSS keyboards from #F-Droid, but they are all pretty extremely shitty & I still cannot understand how people are using them. It's too hard to type on them & their predictions are laughable at best.
For example, their touch detection, especially when long pressing keys for symbols, is so off & difficult to tweak.
The worst thing about those keyboards is that they all SUCK ASS when it comes to the usage of different languages. I type in 3 to 5 different languages & if those #Keyboard's even understand the concept of a non-English language, you always have to explicitly switch to that language, rather than being able to type most languages on the same layout & have simultaneous predictions for several languages, all in one.
These are some of the reasons I got used to using a specific proprietary keyboard over too many years, which I block with my #Firewall, so it cannot call home, at all.
Its predictions are amazing & even allows writing some words you are not sure of, because the predictions will lead the way to the correct spelling etc. Unlike your usual #FOSS keyboard, where you are using some stone age thing.
However, even this keyboard isn't ideal, because it's still not great to type on & easy to mistype.
Predictions & #AutoCorrect actually make things worse when you use custom words, because it wants to correct a word that is already fine, but just unknown.
Obviously, it being extremely proprietary, made by a #TooBigToFail #BigTech corporation is also a huuge no-no.
Now, the best part & the moral of the story.
Recently, I found a #FLOSS keyboard app on #F-Droid which finally gives hope. Is it finally an #OpenSource keyboard on #Android, which does not suck ass?

It is explicitly designed to be super fast & easy to type on & so far, I can only confirm that claim.
The only downside for many users is the learning curve. This post was partially written with this & partially with the old one, because I'm still pretty slow with this one & need to practice more.
The other problem is language support. It is designed & optimised for English, nothing more, nothing less.
However, so far it seems to be very great & once you type often enough, all this will get into your muscle memory & you will be able to type without any mistouches whatsoever & you will forget something like predictions exist, because it's so simple & easy to just manually type out all words.
It also may remind you of good old #CellPhone's, which you could wash in your washing machine & they would still work afterwards.

This has always been a difficult topic. Moving forward versus keeping things working.
Both sides have their arguments & there should be always some kind of balance between the two, depending on the deployment situation & target audience.
Personally, I've been always a strong proponent of moving forward for the sake of breaking old stuff we don't need anymore.
So, from my perspective, a lot of the reasons explained in this article sound to me like "but muh typewriter should still be viable in 2023, though".
This is what I generally don't like about a majority of #Linux culture.
People say shit like "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", while misportraying the spectrum of the word "broken" in this context.
To me, "broken" in the IT world, doesn't only mean, it's not working.
It means it's not viable anymore, today.
For example, your horse might still live & work, but you don't take your horse to ride to work every day.
Your typewriter may still work, but do you really prefer to use it to accomplish work assignments?
Your oldtimer car still work, because it was built in a very robust way, but is it worth the tons of more gas you waste, because its system is so inefficient & wasteful of resources?
#Windows3.1 literally still works on every computer with a tiny emulator to make it run or sometimes even on bare metal, if you know what you are doing, but would you complain, that you cannot run new software on #Windows3.1 or software from that time on your modern operating system?
Move forward, even if you break things along the way.

Speaking of SimpleX, in my life this app was a total failure.
I convinced someone getting an alternative to WhatsApp, so we could talk to each other, since I don't support WhatsApp.
What's happened is, that the person installed SimpleX & uninstalled it within 24 hours, because it drained tons of battery compared to how the person was used to battery drain.
Basically, I lost one opportunity, because SimpleX was no sufficient alternative.
I think I even reported the issue & then realised, this was a huge problem, which was going on for a long while & they still hadn't fixed it by then.
So, again, not sure why SimpleX is so hyped. In my experience it sucked ass. Do people actually use it outside, without constantly charging the phone? :D

Second thing is, why use a service with a phone number, if you have so many easier alternatives available?
You talk about VPNs, Tor, Bitcoin, etc... Why make life so hard?
There are so many instant messengers, which don't require shit.
For example, XMPP is dead easy to set up. Have already set it up for several people with no technical knowledge at all (you can be lucky, if they find the on/off button on a device) & it works without any hassle.
Now, enable OMEMO & you get free encryption without any effort. You usually don't even need to press a button, because it's usually enabled by default.
There are tons of XMPP servers, which don't care about your account, at all. & even in some weird scenario, where they do, you can switch accounts within minutes, by just choosing an alternative server.
Simple & way less difficult & time-consuming than your Signal journey over three oceans. :P

Temporary phone number means, that you have no ownership of it & it is inherently insecure. Having a phone number is already bad enough, but not having & using a temporary one is really bad. Every following Code/PIN will be sent to a phone number literally anyone could use at that moment. So, if there's account recovery via phone number possible, which most services definitely offer, you basically offer anyone the possibility to steal your account with potentially compromising data.
To me, temporary phone numbers are absolutely useless, except you need a throwaway phone number for a lottery or some other bullshit you'll never use anyway. For a private(!) messenger I would never use a phone number. Let alone a temporary one, anyone can have access to, at some point.

I would stay away from all services requiring a phone number, because this system is already broken & it won't come back. There are also luckily plenty of alternatives to Instant Messengers, which require phone numbers, like Signal.
For example, you say "burner number", so you might hail from the USA or some other country with similar laws.
If you are in the EU, you are screwed.
There are no burner numbers.
The only way to get a "burner" number is to get someone else to register the number. However, even then you're screwed, because the number will deactivate once you stop wasting money on that phone number. So, once you pay cash into the number, they already can track who's the actual user of the phone number now.
Or if you let someone else cash in, they can ask at least two people to expose you. First, the number seller, second the one who cashed in.
Therefore, numbers in the EU for example are already entirely broken & unfixable, because no government will make them less controllable & more free, ever.
Which is why using a burner number is not an international option, if you don't want to exclude a big part of an entire continent.

I generally oppose services requiring phone numbers, just to fuck us over.
When will plebs understand its NOT for security, but to get data from you easier & not allowing you to have more than a single verified account?
It's so easy to social engineer your way into getting someone's phone number & then getting access to all important centralised shit services, like Google, Amazon & Microsoft products registered by the victim, who lost his phone number through a social engineering attack.
There are tons of people who lost so much, due to this.
If services actually want security, they need to implement hardware key, TOTP & GPG support. This would be implemented by those monopolies, instead of the requirement for phone numbers, if they actually gave a damn about your account security.
