Aj Cal sent me this prototype fountain pen. He asked me to choose the material, so I chose ebonite because I love the feel of it. (He also has patterned acrylic blanks.) We're calling it the PensByCal Salamangka, where "salamangka" in Filipino refers to magic/sorcery. The nib is a Kanwrite semiflex F, but the actual pen sold will have a Jowo nib unit and matching converter. The snake ring is mine, it does not come with the pen. Happy we have a new Filipino penmaker!

My friend Cindy's Bexley pens collection has reached 74 pens. She started collecting the brand around 2012, when our friend Peter was the distributor in the Philippines. Now Bexley is no more. Cindy was creating a historical catalog with them, so I decided to sell her my Bexley Poseidon Magnum II in Bronze Sands, and my Bexley Corona Lemon Meringue, because she didn't have them yet.

The last Thai horror movie I watched was Shutter, it was really good. Fortunately I watched in the cinema with my best friend so I had someone to shriek with. Since then, though, I've stopped watching horror, might be bad for my blood pressure.

New pen day! I recently read a conversation between my friends Marj and Edward about how Hongdian pens write well using shimmer ink. So I looked around and saw these aluminum pens, heavily inspired by Kaweco Al-Sports. Marj said she had those and they wrote well, so I got them in brown and olive green. I filled up the olive green one and it does write well with Diamine Golden Ivy! (See photo for shimmer writing.) I'll be putting Jacques Herbin Shogun in the brown one.

I did the fountain pen ink inventory this afternoon. To my shock I have about 150 bottles of ink. Most are 50ml, some 30ml, some 20ml. Let's say I have SABLE (stash acquisition beyond life expectancy). I'm putting some less-favored inks on the Muntinlupa Pelikan Hub ink bar for sharing in September.

I really need to inventory my fountain pen inks. I thought I'd sold all my J. Herbin ink except for Lierre Sauvage and Poussiere de Lune, but I couldn't find PdL. Eventually I found not one, but TWO bottles of PdL (one old formula and one new formula) in a separate box, along with Perle Noire and Lie de The. Apparently I'd kept all the ink colors I loved in the regular Herbin range.

Reading about the Conway Stewart drama on IG. Apparently the IG account posted a quote from David Irving about Hitler and the state of Israel. It was taken down, and an apology issued, but not after alienating hundreds of followers. Conway Stewart said it employs an agency to do its social media, but it appears the agency is probably relying on AI-generated quotes and is not checking the appropriateness of its content. Or whoever posted it from the agency has their own agenda.

Yesterday we held the first of two Fountain Pen Network-Philippines 16th Anniversary Pen Meets. This particular pen meet also featured an exhibit of fountain pens with several themes. The photo on the left is from the Art and Pens pairing exhibit, while the photo on the right is from the Art Nouveau/Art Deco exhibit.

I've only had a maximum of 19 pens inked, then I work my way down to 3 before inking new pens. I tend to choose new pens to ink by mood.

ON Inks from the Philippines. They've participated twice in the Manila Pen Show (2023 and 2024), and their inks come in 50ml and 20ml. I have several, of which my current favorite is Umang (or hermit crab) and Pinky Swear.

During the last Manila Pen Show 2024 I had meant to get a bottle of Vinta Inks Red Sangria, but in the rush and excitement totally forgot. It's now available online from Everything Calligraphy and its Lazada/Shopee store, The Write Style PH. Will get Red Sangria eventually.

Having a delicious milk oolong tea. It has this lovely, delicate creamy or "dairy" flavor (without any of the actual milk), and a teaspoon of the leaves goes a long way. This was a gift from my sister. So nice for a rainy day.
