I’m now convinced that it’s a good thing that we have both #ActivityPub and #ATProto. Competition and cross-pollination will make both better and bridges are essential. Mastodon’s Fediscovery and W3C LOLA portability are clear examples.

I don’t think people will ditch their Facebook accounts until a #fediverse alternative offers a modern UI, is easy to use, and can replace Facebook Marketplace, Facebook Groups, Facebook Events, and Facebook Dating.
It’s definitely doable, but a lot of work. Anyone working on something like that?

One of my least favorite types of posts on social media is when a user asks a question where they obviously know the answer but also know that it will generate lots of replies and engagement.
We don’t see much of that on the #fediverse because a simple reverse chronological algorithm doesn’t reward it. And for that, I’m thankful.

Thinking of ways to help new people join the #fediverse with as little friction as possible. Maybe a site that asks some questions and helps you choose the software that suits your needs (Mastodon, some forkey, Pixelfed, etc.) and then helps you find a good server.
Does something like that exist?

I don’t think we can argue that the #Fediverse attracts a very specific crowd and needs more #diversity while at the same time arguing every server should block Threads. You can’t eat your cake and have it too*.
* Yes, that is how the expression should go if we want it to actually make sense.

Since most public figures won't trust their online identity to some random server admin, we need them all to move from Twitter to Threads if we want them on the #Fediverse.

Question for protocol designers/implementers. Do you think letting users control their cryptographic keys like #Nostr does is an improvement over the approach followed by #ActivityPub?
Whether it's from a technical or usability perspective, I'd like to hear what you think.
