The TLDR was that there was a bunch of drama that popped up on other social media sites (primarily Bluesky, though it may have spilled over to Twitter) wherein people were trying to gatekeep who counts as "trans" and, of course, the furries sided en masse with the ones saying "gatekeeping is bad," and it somehow led to furries being called incels. It would be funny if it weren't so pathetic, frankly.

Lol, it never fails. Every time I bring up the point that furry commission artists need to treat their business LIKE A BUSINESS, commit to deadlines, communicate with their customers, etc., I always get pushback for it.
Look, if you're not willing to tell me "this will be done within a month" or "this will be done within three months" or "this will be done within a year" before I pay you for art (and make me reasonably believe that you will keep your promise), I do not want to commission you. I am genuinely baffled by how many artists find that concept so difficult to grasp.

And all of that is in Thunderbird, which costs $0. If you have a Gmail account, you can even sync a Google calendar and get notifications on your phone. And if you DON'T have a Gmail account (because this is the fediverse and the weird nerds will get me if I don't mention it), there are lots of alternatives out there that will do the same thing (I think KDE has a calendar program).

Putting all my SubscribeStar work and all my commission work onto a calendar into blocks of time really does show a pretty good picture of just how much art I actually produce >.>
(Notice, however, that I DO have time scheduled for breaks and lunch. I do everything I can to stick to the schedule I've set for myself.)

I don't remember off the top of my head, but it's happened with **every** version of Linux I've tried, including Mint, Ubuntu, and Fedora (all of which supposedly "just work"). I think what is *more* likely the problem is the HID passthrough from Windows to the VM, but other people don't seem to be having that problem, so... :meowshrug:

Wacom Intuos, which *supposedly* works "right out of the box" even on VMs, but I never have been able to get it to. I can use the tablet as a mouse, but none of the pressure sensitivity (which is a critical feature that I can't do without) is there, and when I go to the tablet settings in Mint, it says "no tablet found."

I would definitely divest from Microsoft at this point if I could - the trouble is I can't get my tablet drivers working on any Linux build I've tried (and believe me, I have spent *days* looking for and trying different solutions), and without that, I have no ability to do the work that puts food on my table. If I had money, I would get a second computer without Windows on it just to see if I could get the drivers to work natively (as opposed to trying to get them working on a VM).
I honestly don't put Adobe on the same level as Microsoft for the simple reason that Adobe is much less ubiquitous; it's not the same *kind of platform* that Windows is. I don't judge people who *can't* divest from Adobe products - I do judge the people who *can* divest but refuse to simply because they can't be bothered to learn new software. With Microsoft, I don't see it as being quite as simple as "learning new software" or even learning at all; there's a lot of stuff that Windows does that Linux *simply cannot do,* including features that I need (e.g. working tablet drivers, certain software compatibilities).

I wish Twitter/X would shut down altogether. It's so awful and people are so stuck to it, and I wish it would just... stop working, so the people who keep making excuses to stay in the nazi bar would no longer have a nazi bar to stay in.
That's selfish of me to say, I know - a lot of artists would get really fucked over by that - but I'm having a harder and harder time having sympathy for people who stubbornly refuse to divest from it. It's not like they don't have alternatives at this point. But they excuse it by saying "This is where everyone is" - all while most of them have BlueSky and Mastodon accounts that have been sitting abandoned since they signed up months ago "just in case." It's infuriating.
I know there's "no ethical consumption" yadda yadda, but ye gods, furries are so fucking bad at making even *token* efforts at it. A line all the way down the hall for Chick-fil-A at FWA every fucking year. People going apeshit drooling over FNAF despite its creator being one of the biggest pieces of shit imaginable (all while condemning JK Rowling even though Scott Cawthon is *literally exactly as bad*). The list is endless, and there is ALWAYS some excuse. "You can't expect us to give up all joy" or "I don't have the bandwidth to keep up with all the outrage" or "I don't give them any money, but [I literally cannot live without it so] I just pirate it" or something along those lines. Did you think The Revolution™ was going to come without any personal sacrifice? Was all that talk just for the sake of performance?
There's so much *complacency* - you won't switch from Adobe because it's too time-consuming to learn new software. You won't get off of Twitter because you don't want to spend time building an audience somewhere else. That's complacency. Doing the right thing sometimes requires *actual effort*, not just stringing the right combination of words together in an "awareness" post or getting angry about all the right things.

Yeah, this is why I actually like menu bars. I like to use the mouse as little as possible, and having menus that are accessible with the Alt key is extremely helpful for that and speeds up the workflow. Granted, you can do the same thing with the ribbon in MS Office (it shows the keystrokes on the ribbon when you tap the Alt key); dunno if that's a thing with LibreOffice in ribbon view or not, but yeah.

I have developed an inherent distrust of anyone who refers to women as "females," even innocently. Just makes my chud-o-meter go beep beep beep. This is true even in queer circles, because the kind of gay men who call women "females" are the same ones who (in my experience) are super transphobic (especially towards transmasc folks) and say "vaginas are gross" a lot.
