Now that i finally run my own node my thoughts quickly went to also start home mining ⛏️
I want to get the full experience like it was in the early days, when mining was packaged together with bitcoin core software.
What would be a good device to start home mining? Energy prices are very high here, so i don’t plan to earn steady rewards as this would just result in losses. I would go for lottery mining with a good feeling of at least decentralizing the network 💪
Heard a lot good stuff about Bitaxe! Any bitaxe owners here? Can you recommend? Would you suggest Supra or Gamma for starters?

Ok, syncing problem solved 💪
Seems the mini pc i chose to run as the node was too weak (intel core2duo p8700 with 8gb ddr3 ram 1333mhz).
Upgraded to another machine (intel i5 4570t, 16gb ddr3 ram 1600mhz).
Way faster now!
I am still curious why the old system only showed 50% cpu and 1gb of ram being used if it struggled that hard with syncing the chain 🤷🏻‍♂️
Btw: i did not have to start the syncing process all over with the new machine. StartOS makes it really easy to use the existing drive in a new device. Just stop all services, shut down, swap ssd into new device, boot from StartOS flash drive, chose reinstall (preserves existing data), follow steps and chose „existing drive“, restart -> start the services and pick back up where you left ✅

Start9 question:
The syncing of bitcoin core seemed to run pretty fast up until around 75%. Now it’s extremely slow. Like 3 % in 24h slow. Sometimes it even times out and tries to reconnect.
Logs are not containing any problems. They only show new blocks one after another. But at a very slow pace.
Setup:
- intel core2duo p8700
- 8gb of ddr3 ram 1333mhz
- 2tb ssd
The blocks it seems to struggle with are from 2023. I wonder if that might have to do with ordinals being introduced and bigger blocks?

Setup already in progress 💪
The ssd already arrived and found its new home in the mini pc.
I chose to start with StartOS. Installation was s breeze an the documentation on the Start9 website is one of the best i ever saw 👌

A short #nostr love story:
Yesterday i commented a post from @npub1s33…252p by sharing my goal of finally setting up my own #bitcoin node.
I mentioned being about 100,000 sats away from that goal as the last thing missing was a 2TB ssd.
Immediately after posting a kind anonymous nostrich zapped me 50k right away and thuss cut the distance to go in half within seconds.
Today a hord of supporting plebs joined together and zapped me missing 50k.
I never dreamed of such a shit ton of support just by mentioning my goal 😱

I found that the use of an external wallet as well as the in app wallet reuses only one address. That leads to potential security risk for this address as spending from it reveals information that can lead to the private key (of that specific address) being compromised.

Yes, the lightning way is definitely a good workaround.
Some plebs are afraid the „come tax those“ approach will not work when the government taxes you for the sats they know you gained ownership regardless if you still have them. They could enforce the law on your hypothetical holdings.

The risk is always there but robosats solved this quite good: both parties have to make a security deposit. The seller would loose his sats if he disappeared.
