I just discovered the amazing Evertop project by @cobble2stone @ericjenott! Evertop is a portable PC that emulates an IBM XT with an 80186 processor and 1MB RAM, running DOS, Minix, and other old 1980s operating systems, including Windows up to version 3.0. Powered by a low-power microcontroller and an e-ink display, it can run for hundreds or even thousands of hours on a single charge, thanks to its built-in solar panel and extreme power-saving measures. We should continue to allow those who enjoy tinkering to explore custom ROMs and other modifications while also supporting those who prefer a more straightforward approach.

I’d like to share some thoughts on a fascinating topic: why democracy—as a decision-making process—is, in a strict mathematical sense, impossible when you have more than one participant. This idea has been influentially formalized in Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem, which provides a set of criteria that any fair voting system should ideally meet. Unfortunately, Arrow’s work—and many subsequent proofs by scholars like Yu, Geanakoplos, and others—shows that no voting method can perfectly satisfy all these fairness criteria simultaneously when converting individual preferences into a collective decision.

I have some rudimentary knowledge of 3D modeling, mostly using Blender, and a bit with FreeCAD. In the past, I used a 3D printer at university, but back then, it felt more like an expensive proof of concept than a practical tool.
I'm particularly interested in printing things like laptop covers, gadgets, and other useful items. I think I’ll need a printer with a relatively large build volume—definitely not smaller than 250x250mm. Fortunately, I have a spare room, so space and noise aren't an issue for me. I would like a functional printer with which to deepen my knowledge of 3D printing, nothing too expensive—I'm okay with tinkering, but not quite an expert for the start.
Additionally, I use Linux on all my computers and would prefer an open-source-friendly 3D printer that doesn’t require any cloud services or apps. Any recommendations you have that would fit the bill? Thanks again for your help!
