@npub18r7…xrw4 BTW, yeah, that event last year was *wild*. I saw the weather predictions and was very puzzled myself. Barely freezing? A bit of precipitation?
Then the ice accumulated on branches and Tyler lost a staggering number of trees — it really was a disaster zone, arboreal carnage that destroyed houses and killed power and blocked roads — and I realized the meteorologists were right to panic.

@npub18r7…xrw4 Absolutely, and the cogent point to make is that climate denialism is an obstacle to seeing these events as more likely and justifying future investment. THAT is a good argument one can make empathetically!

@npub18r7…xrw4 (of course, there were political and policy impacts on the grid failure. this was not that. this was “lol it’s barely below zero, does nobody there have a coat?” sort of grave-dancing. “infrastructure exists to mitigate this, haven’t you heard?” Etc.)

@npub18r7…xrw4 I had a friendship fracture over incorrigible victim-blaming after the Feb 2021 Texas snowpocalypse / grid failure. The most bad-faith incredulity about why we couldn’t handle sustained temperatures common in the north, premised on political distaste for the state. This by a very paper-intelligent person. 😕
