I have two young children. My wife and I have been reading, “The Anxious Generation “. The book makes a compelling case that kids under 16 are actively being harmed by using smartphones and social media.
I think Nostr makes this better since there is not a company farming engagement, but the core of the problem comes from kids being on their devices more than interacting with other kids in real life.
I wonder if trying to setup safe places for kids on the internet is missing the point. We should be keeping them in the real world for as long as possible, especially while their brains are still developing.

Last week I setup an Albyhub account connected to my lighting node running on my start9 server. I loved how easy it is to open channels and get inbound liquidity.
We had a 4 hour power outage yesterday that knocked my server offline. I really appreciate that Alby sent me an email to let me know there was a problem and that I needed to log back into my hub account to get it fully working again

I used to be a gas station repair mechanic. I would get calls all the time for drive offs, especially when the weather got cold. People sitting in their cars to stay warm and then just mindlessly drive off without taking the nozzle out.

Two more bags of rock wool in the walls. It really tightened up the bass response in the room.

I group my tracks pretty much exactly like this. Something new I have been doing recently is changing how I group the midrange instruments.
Before I would group them by type, guitar, piano, synth….
I still start that way but as I’m listening to each part I divide them into low midrange parts and high midrange parts. It helps me focus my EQ decisions and I like summing it down to 2 faders.

lol… the closet… will be a place to store stuff. I had some plans to make it a guitar cab isolation room but ultimately decided I can deal with loud guitar amps in other ways.
It will be a place to store boxes, microphones, and other stuff so that I can keep the studio space clean.
After I’m done with this closet area I’ll focus on the back of the studio that is under a staircase. It is currently full of stuff, which is why I need to finish the closet so I can clear the area under the stairs.
This area will have a return vent that goes to my HVAC, a deep cabinet to store guitar cases, and a bar/counter top area to setup a coffee maker.

It’s a brand new mic, but you should look into the Lewitt RAY large diaphragm condenser mic.
It will sound way better than the SM7B and it has extra features where it auto changes the gain of the microphone depending on your proximity.
It’s like a camera with auto focus, it keeps your voice consistent. It also can be used as an auto mute. If you have to cough, just move away from the mic and it will automatically mute.
I have not personally used it, it just hit the market, but it looks like the perfect mic for podcasting. Especially if you’re not an audio engineer or have good mic technique.

There is a big difference between canceling all sound around you, creating an unnatural environment, and canceling out background noise so that you can hear your music better.
I have spent a lot of time with acoustic room treatment for recording studios. If you put up too much treatment in the room it feels uncomfortable to be in it. The ANC it self is not messing with your ears/brain, it is physically stoping the sound from reaching your ears.
My experience with ANC is that it helps lose your self in the music, you get to experience it as it was intended. If you were to sit in a quiet room with regular headphones, it would be the same as sitting on a busy train with ANC.
I find it suspicious that the article uses examples of uncomfortable/unnatural environments as evidence of ANC being potentially harmful.
To me the author is comparing two very different things

I ran a pi on umbrel for a few years and I only used it as a node. It was always unreliable, have to do restarts to get it to resync with the block chain.
I recently swapped out the pi for a start9 pc and I have been very happy with it so far.
I’m now running a full node and lighting node and it has been rock solid with no issues.

Making progress in the studio. I finished all the framing for the closet and the HVAC register maze. I think I'm ready to start filling it with insulation.
I'm going through a lot of trouble to make an inefficient air vent so that I don't transmit the sound in my studio to the rest of the house through the HVAC.
