#Google kills a lot of great ideas, but I think the most tragic is #CardboardCamera
It allows you to capture 3D depth using a regular smartphone. Viewing these photos in a #GoogleCardboard headset is incredibly immersive.
I don't understand why no one else has picked up where they left off.

@npub1ecp…59pq fungi generally specialize in one food source or another, so I doubt that fungus that eats dead leaves will also parasitize living plants. Further, fungus that colonizes trees isn't likely to colonize garden plants and vice versa.
There's a lot of fungi, and they don't follow rules so you could be right, but still leaves are a good component to compost, and if you do that right it kills the fungi anyway.

1. Open Standards - the fediverse is just an extension of the web, an open standard for social networking was inevitable, and long overdue.
2. Decentralization - preventing a single entity from becoming a gatekeeper and bottleneck like Twitter and Reddit did.
3. Moderation - communities want to set cultural standards for themselves, and still communicate with each other.
All of these are reactions to centralized big-tech having captured social media in Web2.0

@npub1mzd…ttwq some people say you should only catch one exception per try, but sometimes you have a chain of exceptionable statements; a chain of API calls say where each depends on the success of the previous. If you just have one catch you have to then have a switch to figure out which one it was that failed. But since you don't want to do the subsequent you dont want sequential try/catches unless you short circuit return between them.

#lemmy/#kbin has a problem that #mastodon hasn't even attempted to solve; groups and what happens when they get popular.
#Communities, #groups, #magazines, whatever they are called are implemented as #Actors in #ActivityPub. They are basically just *very* popular users who boost a *lot*.
You can't just distribute them across instances the way normal actors do. Whichever server hosts @npub15xa…svyx or @npub1n2q…2a5r is going to get HOSED on the regular.

Everybody in #softwareDevelopment wants to scold you for deep nesting, but nobody complains about compound booleans.
A statement should not contain more than one boolean operator.
It's the #programming equivalent of a run-on sentence.
You'll split a whole block of #code into a function just to avoid an indentation but you'll write a statement with a ternary and a couple groupings? GTFO!

I think the #Fediverse is actively bad for society.
Here are some of the kindest and most empathetic people and they've cloistered themselves from the throngs of utter assholes that are--right now--running amok on #Reddit, #Twitter, #TruthSocial etc.
They can't see your #Trump memes. They can't hear you supporting protestors. They think everyone's a #fascist like them. They are becoming emboldened.
