I was going to say that I finally got more followers here than I ever had on Twitter (which I remembered used to be about 2000) and my count here is at 2056.
...but I just went there to check the exact number and it's currently at 2200, even though I haven't posted in ages and I even protected the account (I honestly don't remember when was my last post and I'm not logging back in to check).

My Ubuntu box didn't have "localhost" for ::1 in /etc/hosts, only for 127.0.0.1. (I don't remember if that was the default or if I took it out at some point *). It does have ip6-localhost as a name.
Some tests in a third-party suite (likely written for macos) failed because of that. So I added localhost to ::1 in my /etc/hosts and the tests now pass.
(If that was even the default Ubuntu setup,) is there a reason why localhost is IPv4 only?

A long time ago (say 20-25 yrs) my perception of FOSS was that it was largely written by a "loosely knit group" of individual volunteers (like me). Years passed and we started to see stats like "80% of commits in the Linux kernel are from big corporations" and we got that "Linux is serious business now!" vibe.
Then we started seeing projects like Clang and the whole CNCF ecosystem which are FOSS projects primarily made/controlled by companies.
Which large projects are still volunteer-driven?

@npub1k08…6xvn I've only ever seen this Threads logo in posts bashing it. It ends up giving it more exposure.
OTOH, a few weeks ago I've seen people here arguing against the top logo, coming up with roundabout reasons to complain about it because it wasn't this-or-that enough (honestly, I'm too much of a cynic to buy it). That just fell right into Meta's lap as a "there's no agreed-upon logo".
That and the constant Mastodon and .social bashing from the inside clearly works to Meta's benefit.

I just read "C#11" in a thread that also involves C++ interop and my brain bugged out for a second. So "C#11" is the eleventh version of C#, I assume? (As opposed to C++11, which is the 2011 standard of the language)

I didn't have one, so I just watched amused as the teacher asked the students to look things up and they couldn't agree on stuff because their versions were so different.

So many people who grew up in the Web 1.0 era of HTML and JavaScript got their start exploring code with the "View source..." menu option.
I know Web 2.0 virtually killed the source-nature of the Web already, but Wasm is the final nail in the coffin.
