I also think it didn't help he got bombarded by a bot telling him (aside from the lightning wallet) to set up a NIP-05 address.
If you never heard of a BIP (not into bitcoin) and someone says you need a NIP-05 address, while an nsec/npub is already a new concent, it's not surprising someone gives up. 🫤

If you just want a Bitcoin Node, it's really easy, just don't put any BTC on it (Bitcoin core has a built-in wallet) and you've got nothing to lose.
Hardest part was deciding what hardware to run it on (raspberry pi or a laptop/pc/cloud) and if I should use a service like Umbrel or build it from sourcecode myself (I chose the last one since it's just 3 lines of commands, but you have to configure tor as well, which was fine but only do that if you're not scared of command prompt 🙂)

Yes, too much complacency in the west with currencies that looked strong, and now when they turn out not to be, blame the corporations for price gauging.
Sadly most are blind to what has been happening and still call bitcoin a scam when you ask if they accept it 😅
I tell myself I'm contributing by asking businesses if they accept bitcoin, if we all keep doing that we'll be planting those little seeds in their head 🌱

Yes, that was the biggest thing I was wondering, why USDT on Polygon. Best thing would still be to store in BTC, since USD is also losing its value, just in a slower way.
But I guess for stability and adoption, USDT is the easy choice. I often disregard Liquid, but this could be a great "in-between" solution. Where they have there USDT rails on liquid and then can easily store part of that wordt directly into BTC. 🙏🏼

Lot of these in Asia. Japan has quite decent places under their train tracks, shops, restaurants. SEA has a lot of random "stuff" thrown under semi-legal. Love it!

Quite interesting video showing Bitcoin taking ground in Cuba. People are already used to trying to circumvent restricted internet service, so I think that only helps in this regard.

Ever since Twitter/X started showing me extreme political posts between two parties in a country I won't even be voting, I've been hanging around on Nostr for a while thanks to @npub1a2c…w83a and @npub1trr…hdpu
I noticed Twitter's algorithm just leaves you feeling angry/pessimistic. 🗿
Checking this place has been such a breath of fresh air, I love going through the different timeline settings, instead of relying on a broken algorithm.
I'll be trying to contribute to this place as much as I can in a positive way ♥️🟠

And that was for gold, which was harder to hide, transport and trade because of its physical properties.
Now it's even harder to enforce because we can just travel to another country easier if we want to exchange it still in a legal setting.
