the way I see it, it is difficult to have healthy public services for many different things because it is difficult to develop core competencies.
So an organisation can not be equally good in many things. We see it all the time companies good in one thing fail in another.
This also applies to the public sector.
But the one thing public sector should be good at is governance and regulation. It is literally their main reason for existence.
When they fail to regulate that means that they are failing on the one thing they were created for.
I do not believe this is by accident, the corruption is because politicians can influence these decisions. Generally speaking when we have independent bodies that are responsible for oversight of certain parts of the economy or the society we have better results when they are truly independent and they can not be influenced by the politicians.
In this case ofwat has failed. It’s not only Thames Water that has failed, it is a failure of the regulator as well. In an ideal situation the justice system should intervene and people should be punished but I am not holding my breath.

that happens only where there is lack of oversight. They should be held accountable only then they will pay attention, otherwise it’s just a one grab.
The problem is that despite what UK claims there are too many people who get way with scandals like this and after 20 years a documentary in combination with an election may make politicians pay attention to what happened same as with the post office scandal

they will last a few decades at least. These disks have a long shelf life. I buy box sets and most of them are created a long time ago. Sometimes I buy second hand. I rarely have issues with a worn out disk but this it.

having the physical medium is key. You may have to re-rip it at some point for some reason.
As long as you have the disks stored somewhere you are good
