I'm offering a simple sketch of canalization to clarify the well-rounded academic use of the term, the optimism it typically packs, and perhaps provide a little perspective on the suitability of applying the term to describe some forms of psychopathology.

What about credit? We share ideas on here ranging from zany to semi-polished. What if you posted this tomorrow:
"We might get a broad read on the underpinnings of consciousness if we devised a design to parse out voluntary vs. involuntary inputs factoring in eye movements to relevant vs. irrelevant space during different states of consciousness."
A year later, Barney Rubble (2024) publishes major findings and admits he got the idea on Mastadon.
