AI, and data-scraping for it, should demonstrate, in my opinion, the importance of a *private*, more intimate and trust-based internet---similar to the Fediverse.
Have user or site content hidden and inaccessible behind a login screen, and have communications between instances and users be based on mutual trust and collective, voluntary, communal policing, e.g.: if a user is found to be some AI, we can address it; if an instance is some AI data-mining instance, we can address it. It's not stupid. It's the same in China. I'm not sure what it is, but it's got to me related to like kilter of the Earth or something. Also, the light in China is always a nice warm, golden color (probably because of atmospheric pollution pushing wavelengths down) and everything kind of subtly "glows" in this really beautiful way (also probably due to ambient air pollution causing light to diffuse off suspended particulates). The light in the US is much more "harsh" and definitely more "blue" or "white" in temperature.

I bought a cheap Xiaomi in China when I first moved over there in 2015. It was kinda trash. I'd have to keep prying off the back and removing the battery (it had a swappable/replaceable battery) because it would lock up and you'd be unable to get it to turn off or reboot otherwise. I think they're pretty "okay" nowadays, I see their stores all the time in shopping centers and stuff. The new maintainers are hard-coding some filter/blocklist system into the program that will query some database to identify "right wing" music and obstruct the ability for that media to be uploaded or shared. You, the user and/or deployer of the software, will have no means by which to disable this nor bypass it (unless, I suppose, you hard fork the project and start maintaining a modified version of the software yourself with this trash manually scooped out).

I think, generally, it's not a matter of "more" vs. "less", but a matter of application. E.g., using the USA as an example, it *should* be easier and less overall regulated and expensive for people to start businesses. It *should* be more streamlined with less paperwork and bureaucracy to hire employees or conduct business. However, fine and punishments for businesses acting poorly or outside of the law ought be extremely severe, and the severity of punishment ought scale steeply with the size/income of said business and the severity of the violations. So, to me, it's a lot more about "balance". ---We make it extremely difficult and expensive and bureaucratic to run a business in the United States, and, meanwhile, we also allow businesses to metaphorically (or, in some cases, literally) "get away with murder". I don't think it's for area denial but moreso to slow or encumber people so as to make it easier to shoot them and slow or stall an advance.

It's a little crazy, isn't it? Our company does similar with the likes of Microsoft 365 which includes Teams, Outlook, et al.. All fully dependent on Microsoft for being hosted, with all our data sitting on their machines. @npub1shv…rctv @npub1hjv…drdr

That's wild. I was never really a Twitter use and I briefly had Tumblr back in the day when it was more of a mood board blog kinda deal or whatever. I don't really understand how they want to provide a mechanism by which one can dictate activities upon a remote server. E.g.:
> You will be able to choose whether your posts can be quoted at all.
> You will be able to withdraw your post from the quoted context at any time.
To me, that *completely* spits in the face of instance sovereignty. I.e., "how can *you*/*your instance* tell *my* instance what to do/what it can/cannot do?"
