I don't, and won't, own his stock for moral reaons (mostly because I don't want to give blackrock money for them to buy bitcoin), but he's right on his arguments against proof of reserves. It's bad for security (on the technical side) and it doesn't prove liabilities. But for me it's just not your keys, not your coins.

Is bitvora KYC? I just tried to create an account but it requires at least a verified phone number (I stopped at that step).
As long as he'll be using something custodial, might as well go for coinos.io and enable the automatic withdrawals with a low threshold.
Swiss Bitcoin Pay is also good (up to about 5000 USD per year without KYC).
Zaprite handles all the invoicing is non-custodial (and can also be connected with coinos.io (which is custodial)).
If he's just doing retail payments, he could just use his phone with Green. He might also use the Bullbitcoin app or Aqua (which can take lightning payments but convert them to liquid in the background).
The best is probably btcpayserver if they can run their own server or get technical help.

That's one of the problems I'm having now. Using nostr, I'm finding interesting content I want to share, but I then have to copy-paste that on simplex. Using something built on nostr would be more convenient. I just don't know how good of a job was done on the security and privacy of 0xChat and Keychat.

0xChat vs Keychat vs SimpleX ?
Any opinions on which one has the best security and privacy?
Spent the last six months putting people on SimpleX. If 0xChat or Keychat are better, I could try to convert some people. I told everyone that SimpleX was simply the best tool at the time but privacy apps built on Nostr might be better later. Are we there yet?
My understanding is that with Keychat, one needs to pay sats to chat. I'd be willing to do that if it's the best security and privacy model. But not sure how well that would go when introducing normies. It seems to me like it would slow down adoption. People can just run their own simplex relays for their private group so I'm not sure the economic sustainability argument by Keychat checks out. Dunno.

Yes, good point, Mullvad VPN. I would install the software and make sure to use the "kill switch" and "lockdown mode" options in the settings to make sure nothing leaves the computer without going through the VPN. I would also suggest using its multihop setting so you can choose different entry and exit servers.

It really depends on what you're planning to do with the computer. How versatile do you need it to be, are you planning to generate keys with that computer, for how much money, etc. Depending on that, what you need to do will change.
However, usually, no matter what, I would choose full-disk encryption (during the installation, not only the home folder).
Afterwards, I would make sure it's up to date.
On ubuntu and related distros :
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
Then I would check to make sure I don't have open ports that I don't use. For example, if you won't be printing, you don't need "cups". You can look at which ports are open with :
sudo netstat -lntp
Those are some pretty basic but important steps.
For anything major in the bitcoin world, you can either choose to use in combination with a hardware wallet or go with a disposable computer that will never go online and use it only with a live-dvd linux distribution.

My understanding is that he has found out about a potential way of attacking the lightning network which the current mitigation strategies that have been implemented recently don't fully cover.
I don't know how much of a problem those attacks really are.

I remember a few years back they were (or claimed to be) under a yuuuge DDoS attack. They then said they had made a partnership with a security firm and that fixed the problem. When I looked up that company, I remember coming to the conclusion that it was linked to Mossad.
Proton are also people from CERN. I remember reading quite a few disturbing things about that group.
I still use the service for certain things, but I'm under no illusion as to what I'm getting.

Do you know if we have an equivalent, in the open-source LLM world, of the closed source LLMs that can do current searches? For example, I hear the new version of ChatGPT can do that and I see that perplexity.ai can do it as well. Perplexity also gives the links to their search sources so we can verify. But I don't want to use those tools because they are closed-source. And I only want to use bitcoin for payments. If those already exist, I'd love to be able to use them on your website.
Really hoping we can get current searches in the open source world soon.
In the meantime, I love what you've built. Been looking at the resources you mention on the home page as well.
By the way, it's a just a vague impression but I get the feeling that LLaMa 13b is more woke than the 7b and 70b.

I've just started playing on Nostr a few weeks ago myself, so I started with a simple option : getalby.com You download an extension for your browser and can then zap from your PC. However, getalby is custodial.
My next step is to go self-sovereign for this as well. I think there's Nostr Wallet Connect which you can use with your personal LND node.
I don't yet know if there's an equivalent for Core-lightning nodes.

Has anybody found a cloud service provider that rents GPUs and accepts bitcoin?
I like the idea of installing it myself but I don't have the local power to use the more advanced models. So GPU rental seems the way to go.
Obviously I prefer to use Bitcoin for many reasons but one is for privacy. I could probably try using a prepaid credit card but I also know many providers refuse those. Or they may be usable only in some countries.
Lunanode is well known for accepting bitcoin but they don't offer GPU rentals.
The closest I've come is bitlaunch.io for a vultr.com instance (they do GPUs) but we can't freeze/shelve the instance between uses. Neither can we take a snapshot between uses to faciliate the next instance creation. I guess there's the option of leaving the instance on, but that would be in the thousands per month...

I think you summarized the situation very well. It's very hard to know which countries are going in the right direction.
So many criteria to consider :
- general civil rights and freedoms
- no forced jabs or medical tests
- no conscription
- no war
- homeschooling rights
- protection of parental rights
- low level of criminal violence (the State, gangs, mafia, cartels, thefts, etc)
- Bitcoin acceptance or at least non-criminalization
- no forced revealing of passwords
- low level of endemic diseases and parasites
- low level of pollution
- low level of natural disasters

Just for fun, I tried to ask an AI (Llama 2, 70b) what it thought were good countries for a second passport. Countries that protected their citizens' and residents' freedoms and civil rights during the covid plan-demic.
Unfortunately, the answers were ridiculous. Did you know that Canada had a "relatively open approach" during the plan-demic??? It was good to learn that because the forced quarantines, masking, jabs and vaccine passports certainly could have fooled me!! hahaha

Yes, but myself I wouldn't hedge with the BRICS. I would hedge with different countries. But I don't mean to tell other people what to do.
For my taste :
- Brazil under Lula is too Jab-friendly,
- Russia under Putin had the Vaxx cards in many parts of the country and had conscription for a while,
- China has a social credit system and is very death jab-friendly (or mandatory covid testing-friendly),
- many in South African political parties seem to want to kill a different demographic (!) and
- India also had a very forced death jab-friendly attitude with the poor in some parts of the country (plus it pretty much woke up one day and demonetized their then-current rupee bills overnight) and unfortunately it has an incredible amount of diseases and parasites (I know many who came back from a simple trip to India and had parasites the doctors couldn't treat for years).
Obviously India has great history and great traditions, etc. I'm also fascinated with many things from China. I also love Indian and Chinese food. Brazil is also a very big country and it has many freedom-lover. So I could understand the appeal.
I'm sure you'll find great people in any of those countries but... I would hedge with other countries, personally.
I haven't been able to find anything better than where I currently am so I haven't moved but, if I were to hedge I think it would be more likely to be with Guatelama / Nicaragua / Mexico / Japan / El Salvador / Romania, or perhaps with an island passport somewhere (although I wouldn't choose Saint Kitts or Saint Vincent, I forget which one, because one of those two had a natural disaster (volcano eruption?) a while back and the gubermint told their people that only the death-jabbed could go on the rescue boats! (So they won't be getting my money).

I'm still looking for GPU cloud providers that take bitcoin and so far vultr.com is the only I can find that takes bitcoin (though through bitpay, which is definitely not my first choice). But with vultr we have to destroy the instance between uses, we can just freeze it.

From memory, when they started : they were closed source for a while and they also even used a web blockchain explorer for their app without telling us (not exactly privacy friendly). Someone else had to figure it out. I remember that Greg Maxwell said on reddit at the time that he wouldn't use that project. So I don't use it.
I also don't want to use Wasabi since they use a chain surveillance company.
So it's down to joinmarket for coinjoins.
But onchain tx fees being what they are, it's tempting to play around with lightning, liquid, payjoin, etc, I'm also bullish on e-cash token applications like minibits, cashu, etc. I think it may help for privacy going forward.

Liquid is very interesting. It's not for your pension fund but it's a great in-between step : between small lightning amounts and bigger amounts in cold storage. I can live with the federation tradeoffs for limited amounts. I appreciate the extra potential privacy. However, I really wish we could have coin control on liquid. Last I checked, neither Green nor Elements had coin control for liquid.

Hmmm, come to think of it, it's true that the formatting is not always perfect when coming from Word files, etc. I didn't even know Onlyoffice existed.
Looking at their github, I don't see a gpg public key file and a checksum file which I usually prefer to have before putting anything on my computer. Apt-cache on xubuntu doesn't seem to show that it's part of the repositories.
I'll try to find the verification files somewhere. If you know where I can find them, please let me know.

In the past, I tried twice to create twitter accounts. Both times, I got my account blocked by twitter as soon as I tried to follow you (Will), Matt Odell @npub1qny…95gx and Francis Pouliot. To unblock, I would have had to give them my phone number. That wasn't going to happen so I never had an account.
I then kept on following people whose opinions I cared about using an rss feed reader with different nitter instances (that read twitter for us). Those have now been blocked as far as I know.
So, from personal experience, it seems like Nostr just has to exist. Twitter and all the other centralized services will do the Nostr promotion for us. It just takes time. We're like what, 14 years in for Bitcoin? And many bitcoin-accepting merchant lists are still thin, even though it is really constantly getting easier to live on a Bitcoin standard in our daily lives. It just takes times. It's growing well.
Furthermore, people who are still ok with a centralized system at this point, ... well, to be frank, I don't what to know their opinions on other topics. My life is already pretty full. So I'm more than happy to have them stay over there. It's the Great Bifurcation 😀

I appreciate your stance on bitcoin and all the work you've done against jab mandates.
However, if you want to help people with the cost of living, especially housing :
1. end the fed,
2. allow the free market to determine the price of money (interest rates) and
3. relax zoning/building rules. Let people choose how they use their land. Allow people to live how they choose to (for example: secondary dwellings on land) and allow people to build their own homes, of various sizes, with different materials, etc.
There's a lot of good technology out there, lots of good solutions for cheaper housing. **Regulation is the problem**.
Artificially changing the price of money is not the answer.

Also : for now, I'm using it all through the getalby extension. I'll ideally move away from that in the future to be more nostr sovereign but for now I appreciate the ease of use tremendously.

First, I switched to iris.to but didn't like it how it runs. Then tried snort.social. I like it but I'm not sure if they're better on the censoring issue. I'll try coracle.social to see. If all else fails, I'll use Lume or Gossip on the desktop.
