@npub17nc…9dam yea and between increasing environmental awareness, costs of living continuing to increase, and fuel prices going up due to ETS, I can't imagine that trend reversing anytime soon.

What’s happening in the transport world right now?
I haven't blogged anything for a while, so this is just a quick update on a few things going on in the transport world in Christchurch right now. A lot of these are quite dry and only the transport tragics will know much about them. So for everyone else here’s a quick summary – I’ve kept strictly to one sentence each.

@npub17nc…9dam it's both. Christchurch underinvestment is partly because local councils haven't been willing to fund more locally. The central/local government share is different for different types of protect. Public transport is very roughly half from fares, quarter from local council rates and quarter from central government.

@npub17nc…9dam yea they do include the local share. It's a big difference and my mind just goes to how much better Christchurch could be if it public transport budget was triple the size - trains/trams, better frequencies, speeds, 100% electric ...

How different regions spend their transport budgets
A recent survey in Wellington (here, paywalled) asked residents how they would spend $100 on Wellington’s transport if they were in charge. The average response from the public was to spend $55 on public transport, $36 on roads, and $9 on footpaths and cycleways. A few people online were wondering how that compared to the actual figures, so I thought I’d look it up.
