I’m not necessarily saying Gnome needs to completely change course, but overall there seems to be a shift away from accepting external protocols that way, and I think that needs stop.

Fair point, though I don’t think it will be.
If I was to give a solution, I would argue that Gnome needs to be able to relax some of its hard-line philosophy for the sake of effectively collaborating on protocols and with other desktops.
This whole thing we call foss only works if projects respect each other as their equals; not trying to lead or dictate what the others do, but listening to, respecting, and collaborating with all.
Gnome cannot take the “no big deal” approach to collaboration with other projects. That is guaranteed failure.

I believe relatively few people actually *despise* Gnome, but there are pretty valid a reasons a lot of people dislike it. Gnome (as a project) can be very polarizing at times, especially when there are issues concerning compatibility with other projects. I think that is where the majority of the ire Gnome receives comes from; the “not a bug, won’t fix” type things that are way too common.
That’s why I referenced the blog post I linked previously, because something needs to change. I’m not sure exactly what, but there’s definitely a deep-rooted problem with the project’s culture inhibiting healthy collaboration with the greater foss community.

Yes, but it’s a fundamental thing. Flood routing does not scale, and unless they ditch it, Meshtastic will continue to be optimized for smaller networks that are more mobile and resilient.
It’s a tradeoff, but obviously if your goal is to enable large networks with little overhead, Reticulum’s model (or something similar) is the way to go.

Being able to move the dialog is literally the best feature ever.
Do you know how many times I click to expand an image in NewsFlash, only for it to be a small, immovable, non-resizable box that I can’t do anything with?
I like when the dialogs appear in the middle of a window, but I hate this trend of shackling popups like this to the parent window, even when the parent window should have still been usable underneath.
(For example, what if I want to restore 2 disk images at once?)

It's not a waste of plastic as long as the radios also support RNode/Reticulum :blobcat3c:
In all seriousness, while Meshtastic has its place in more mobile small group applications, I prefer Reticulum for multiple reasons; chief among them being the fact that it *doesn't* use flood routing meaning it can much more efficiently form a massive network.
Reticulum also has an ecosystem of apps supporting things like website-like pages and voice calls, and doesn't *just* work over LoRa.

I have a Sony CFD-S70 boombox that has (had) MP3 CD support.

They’re fixed devices, so I ended up just doing an fstab edit.
Bit annoying that I couldn’t get hotplug to work though, but honestly it was only a nice to have

Seriously, there is like *no* documentation on this and a million things I’m supposed to use.
Most things for Alpine Linux say to use udev rules, but then theres a ton of publications saying that’s outdated and doesn’t work (they are correct, it didn’t, I tried).
They recommend using some systemd thing instead, but of course Alpine doesn’t have systemd, so I can’t do anything except do it manually :blobcatnotlikethis:

I own an Nvidia Jetson Nano 2GB dev kit and it was recently declared EOL. :blobcat_thisisfine:

The fact that I can't even find a fully up to date working Linux image for it is actually insane. :blobcatupsidedown:
The Armbian image doesn't have a working display output, and even sketchy Ubuntu builds off Github don't support anything past 22.04!
