HP confirmed that affected customers are running FutureSmart 5.6, software designed to enable printer configuration from the control panel or a dedicated web page. Affected users will also have IPsec enabled.

Right and I'm all about federation and interoperability and not having walled gardens that have their data monetized and users exploited. My point is merely that the lay person needs a much lower "lift/lower threshold to entry" to utilize services offered by the Fediverse as whole. Part of that is end user education and awareness, much like with security, but it also needs less friction so that "critical mass" can be achieved outside of what currently constitutes social media.

People understand email and have been using it for years but when you take your average non technical person and try to explain that they sign into a server and then have a choice of apps/clients all of which have different UIs, and then add on home/local/federated feeds along with trying to find people and that it's not just their "username" but that you have add the "@whateverdomain" , it all gets a bit overwhelming and people stop.
People want the tech that powers their work and social lives to "just work" and they are now used to large social media companies that have made, despite all their issues, signing up and connecting, very very easy.

So much this 👆🏾 ESPECIALLY the onboarding experience. Having experienced this first hand recently with a person who is fairly tech savvy but not in tech and seen the frustration, the "friction" with user onboarding needs to be removed as much as possible. It's really analogous to getting people to get to use MFA. They aren't necessarily opposed to it, but the friction associated with it ("this is too much work") causes a lack of buy in.

Scraping datafrom the web including any personal information you might have shared (probably don't do that) to create their generative text system.
What's really striking and sort of 🙄amusing is that "Open" AI doesn't directly mention its legal reasons for using people’s personal information in training data but says it relies upon *“legitimate interests”* when it “develops” its services. LOLLLLL....
These bros are so high on their own supply that they will say the absolute dumbest 💩in the furtherance of their quest to monetize anything and everything all while claiming that they are doing it in the furtherance of "good" for society and the morons on Twitter are doing work for the bros by shilling the "value add" brought by ChatGPT 🤷🏾‍♂️
