In 2024, I am starting my 6th year of plants/insects recording in the same forest. My idea about climate change local consequences is that these should be apprehended rather through ecological niches perspective.
Climate change is triggering a chaos, with most years either under or above species reproduction ecological requirements. Ecosystems failure comes from this.

Let's take a break from this week of rove beetles madness with a bit of #weevil art. Hypera meles (F.) is a clover crop pest. But there is no such crop here. In my forest it probably feeds on Trifolium aureum Pollich (golden clover).

@npub153s…cvd9 This prompted me to a retrospective overview of my own bibliography, of which main themes look like:
* Where to find beetles during harshest drought in 4 centuries
*How my sampling got screwed up by 2-month long unstoppable monsoon
*I tried hard to find any living beetle in this crop, but failed
*How to write a species list, once beetles got intoxicated by the neighboring highway
*How to write a paper about insects disappearing once they have disappeared from your site?

@npub153s…cvd9 And do you know the name or family of this weird looking puppy ? To me it looks like some ground beetle with maximal cychrisization and with this eye shape, I am speculating about its hunting strategy, if it is a hunter.

@npub16nf…y96v I confirm. I don't know how it is now, but in my time EU banned doing your post-doc not just in your own institution but even in your own country. Being child of an 80% disabled mother, this was an issue.

@npub1g0t…tvm4 In addition, we must also push for a right to recycle. In the US, anyone can take things out of E-wastes. Vintage computers lovers do that all time. In France, it is strictly forbidden! A few years ago someone was trialed for this. E-wastes owners actually ship most of the garbage to Africa, as was revealed during COVID lockdown. Such a management of E-wastes is a shame. Unfortunately, most of the population is unaware of it and wonders why Africans are infuriated at them.

@npub1lv4…ru5g Thank you. I really loved them indeed. They were the last ones of a local variety.
And all Black locust seedlings died too, while adult trees look unwell. To me this is rather good news, as this imported species is invasive in our floodplains. It's native from America. Such heat-induced dieback would be a disaster there.

@npub1lv4…ru5g I do not know, if it is related. But it happened to me exactly the same this Summer with all of my cherry and prune trees. And they all died soon after this meager harvest. In my case, I think, this relates to 2022 heat dome.

@npub1372…r5l0 I do not mow my garden and I find it beautiful. Almost every other day, someone knocks at my door and proposes to mow it for me. Sigh.😌
