@nprofile…l0gg @nprofile…9lrd no game company is without their issues, but i personally do like nintendo games. i wish i didn't because then i could just drop them because of their shitty legal strategies. the only times i've bought games for $60+ in the last decade have been Nintendo games, though. other than like, doom 2016. they're games i know i'll pretty much always enjoy.
personally, i also get extremely tired of the bloat that basically every AAA game has at this point. the crazy focus on massive open worlds has really tanked my enthusiasm for a lot of games. i like nintendo though and i know i'll play a lot of mario kart even if i don't do the open world stuff so that's fine with me personally.
also, i've said this before, but basically no games are $60 anymore. not from anyone. they might say they're $60, but then they've got microtransactions, and special editions, and paid early access, etc. and that's before we even take into account live service games.
i made the comparison to FFXIV where if you want to play the game for a year you'll be paying $216 minimum ($60 for the game with all the expansions + $156-$180 subscription). yet, FFXIV is literally the biggest MMO. these are prices people have been paying for a long, long time.

@nprofile…4jyj I don't think I've seen anyone seeing that. More like just expressing distaste for the current state of the online Linux/FOSS community presence and how maintainers act. Sometimes it isn't even about trans stuff specifically, it's just these complete man babies who freak out at the slightest bit of provocation or offense because they are mentally ill and/or thrive off of drama.
But I've never seen that as a reason to stop using FOSS, because the whole point is that it doesn't matter who maintains or uses it as long as it is actually FOSS and works for your needs.

All the way back in 2018, some friends and I went out to some abandoned buildings in order to get audio/video/photo reference, as well as some inspiration, for the horror game we were making.
That game is the next thing I'm working on as a personal project. Shadows of the Mind. It takes place in an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere. Fitting. It's a survival horror game, heavily inspired by Silent Hill. It's also a sequel to a horror game jam entry I made in 2013. It'll be cool.

@nprofile…p39j @nprofile…mdcj I didn't change anything about updates on my latest install and I've never had an automatic one. I'll get a little toast popup saying it's time to update like once every couple days but that's it.
You can also use winutils and change updates that way extremely easily. For instance, just getting security updates or disabling updates entirely (not the greatest idea but sure).

Like hot damn, look at these characters. I have said it before and I'll probably keep saying it, but I've always loved the art style of FF games. They aim for something realistic but still video-gamey and artistic, in such a way that draws me in far more than just going for the ultra-realistic graphics. That kind of thing is a fun novelty, to see just how tech can be pushed, but when one thing is off and you're going for that look, it ruins it all. When you've got a bit more style to it, there is a lot more freedom there.

There was an FPS called The Conduit on the Wii that had multiplayer. I got really good at it. There was this glitch where if you died right as you picked up the rocket launcher, it would combine with whatever weapon you were holding when you respawned. It was pretty fun shooting fully automatic rockets lmao. People got wise to it eventually and the game mode changed entirely from just a simple death match to something more akin to man with the golden gun.

does mother 3 have anything to do with mother 2 at all other than like, the gameplay? i haven't played it but it seems pretty far removed in terms of story.

game jam game almost done, just gotta give the enemies special moves and then test it to make sure they aren't too overpowered lol. i definitely want the game to be easy and something you can complete in like 10-15 minutes, but there is a score at the end so if you want to try and get it higher you always can!

I find it interesting how a lot of people are theorizing that Nintendo reached an agreement with Ryujinx to shut it down because the Switch 2 is very similar to the Switch and it wouldn't take much to get Switch 2 games working.
However, if that's the case... they must not be very confident with their security, right? In order to make Switch 2 games work at all, you'd first need a way to... well... dump the Switch 2 games. In that case, it's possible that the MIG Switch might be able to work with Switch 2 games as well with just a little bit of tinkering.
I think it is more likely that Nintendo is going to be releasing quite a number of multiplatform games, especially for the Switch 2's launch titles, and they just don't want people to be able to emulate those last-gen versions and get all the same enhancements that the Switch 2 would provide (higher FPS and resolution). Actual Switch 2 games have to have a bunch more security measures in place that prevent these sorts of things for working, especially after Nintendo's countless failures regarding security.
On that note, though, it also makes me wonder if they think their console getting hacked into is just an inevitability and are just trying to stave off would-be emulator devs from emulating Switch 2 for as long as they can.

I will admit, it is looking better than before. Still not totally sold on it, but it is looking better.
I think the trailer is a little bit too spoilery, like with two of the red pyramid things coming out when previously in the game you'd always think there was just one until this moment. It's a really cool reveal and to just put it in the trailer is unfortunate. Or things like Eddie's breakdown. I know most people playing this remake will have already played the original, but I am sure a lot of people haven't played it yet too... so the trailer having things that are pretty wild moments is unfortunate.
I also don't really jive with the lead guitar in Laura's Theme. I can't think of the right musical term for it right now, but the notes played don't last as long as they should and it leaves some weird empty space. It sounds like an amateur playing and stopping their notes too early. The guitar tone also just sounds a bit more cheesy... honestly it sounds like a MIDI guitar.

"games as an art form" was truly disastrous for the industry. it is totally okay to make your game have a lot of artistic value, but it also needs to justify its existence as a game instead of some other type of media, like a movie for instance. if all you do is move the stick around and push a button every now and then in between exposition and cutscenes it's almost like your game would be better as a movie... just something to watch instead of play.
