I also understand how hard it is to deal with the belongings of the people we lose. I have a house full of boxes from three people whom I have lost over the last four years. It’s difficult to get through it all—in more than one way. It’s made me realize how important it is to minimize your belongings the older you get.
I think your viking funeral for your sister’s ephemera sounds like a really cool way to deal with the material. I hope you enjoyed the wine.

I'm so sorry that you lost your sister. I've experienced some major losses over the last four years. I know how it's hard to talk about it because you think nobody wants to hear or talk about death and grief. And I do think that's probably true for the majority of people, but then there are people like me, who understand your pain because I've experienced the same. I'm open to talking about it.

It disgusts me that Adams is defending those reckless cops who thought it was smart to draw and use their guns over a stupid two dollars and ninety cents.
Even if the guy had a knife (which I'm not sure I believe), guns should not have been used with innocent people standing around.
I hope that poor man who was shot in the head makes it. And I really hope that Adams is booted out of office. He's the worst.

The owner told me that Nina's is going to stay open until the end of the year. I plan on going back again soon.

Five and dime stores are considered a thing of the past; however, in Spring Green, #Wisconsin, one five and dime has endured for 108 years. Nina's Department Store, founded in 1916, is a place that I went to when I was a child. It is a place that my mother went to when she was a child.
This weekend I stopped by the store and learned that it is closing because the owners are retiring. It's so sad to see this store, which has been run by four generations of one family, close.

I read the site's info page and saw that it uses YouTube content. What I like about it is the organization of content and the controls. I think it also appeals to my short-attention span. Click, click, click!!! I would never have the patience to look for this stuff on YouTube.
Someone pointed out to me a UK site (tvark.org/programmes) that is kind of doing the same thing, but it lacks the neat navigation of content.

My mind is blown. Someone has created a website where you can watch TV from bygone days—TV from the 1950s to 2000s. Each decade has a different screen with unique controls. The '50s and '70s (my favorite decade) are the most developed, with material organized by year.

My sister has had the chore of doing something with all the many tomatoes we have from the garden. So far, she has made salsa, tomato juice, and Bloody Mary mix. I was given the task of dealing with the cucumbers. Today, I made a batch of refrigerator dill pickles. It was a recipe that I had success with last summer in Brooklyn.
The photos show some of the jars before I filled them with brine. In 24 hours, I will be able to stick a garlicky dill spear in a Bloody Mary.

I feel privileged to have had this experience because it was lost with the development of computers, layout programs, and digital printing. That Daylighter camera was a wondrous piece of equipment.

I will always be a lover of print. My first job ever was as a layout artist for a newspaper. This was before computers were commonplace. I would paste up pages in which the text and ads were created with a typesetting machine. I would fit and glue the individual text and images on a large waxy sheet and then shoot the pages with a Daylighter camera to create an image to be used for a print plate.

I read an interesting article about THE ONION returning to print production in the print edition of ISTHMUS. THE ONION’s exec editor explained that using social media to promote the publication didn’t work: “Besides it [social media] just being a toxic, awful place to spend time, it’s not an ideal place to consume THE ONION because our posts were competing with posts from family and advertisements.” A print publication removes those distractions.

I used to run by the hotel every day when I lived in Manhattan. It was unusual if I *didn't* see a naked person when I went by. I think in recent years the nude flash shows have died down. The hotel is not as hip as it used to be. The Standard East Village is more "in" these days.

Happy birthday from Peanut and me! Peanut is a rescue chihuahua who is living her best life in her senior years. Last weekend, she saw cattle for the first time. She was so excited and ran after them, barking her little heart out. Imagine a human running toward and yelling at a Tyrannosaurus Rex, and you might understand what a hilarious scene it was.
I hope that your boys provide a hilarious scene to make you laugh on your special day.

The 2020 indie film "Farewell Amor" has an amazing soundtrack. I don't know if there's an official release, but somebody compiled the music as a Spotify playlist.
The film is about an Angolan family who, after being separated for a decade, connect again through music and dance. The soundtrack is full of beautiful music that I was completely unfamiliar with.

I enjoyed a walk at Owen Conservation Park in Madison. When I was living in NYC, I was bugged by how I could never find a spot where I could be truly alone. There would always be somebody standing in the background or looking over at me. It's wonderful to find solitude in Owen Park.
The park is almost 100 acres of prairie and woods. It has ponds and is full of wildlife.

Yes, it does seem many people are easily influenced by propaganda. I struggle to understand why they don't question things—especially after what we've been through collectively over the last decade.
If I was concerned with a single issue, I wouldn't keep my vote as a hostage. I would work in-person and on location to change it. It's pretty easy to demand change from a safe, distant position.

You must be talking about the single-issue voters—those who are so focused on one issue that they cannot see the bigger picture, or the bigger concern. Why these people cannot understand that no candidate is ever going to be perfect and be able to fulfill their every demand and wish is maddening.
I have a theory that these people have never made a single compromise in their life and thus their obstinance.

If you want to watch good horror films, watch the ones made in the '70s and '80s. It was a period when horror filmmakers focused on story-writing. And because it was before CGI/computer technology, filmmakers had to be creative with their special effects.
Some of my favorite films from that period are "Tourist Trap," "Zombie Flesh Eaters" (often just called "Zombie"), "Burnt Offerings," "Patrick," "The Entity," and "The Fan."

I tend my prickly pears in leather gloves with special padding on the fingers. They've been lifesavers.
Do you have any soil tips? I used organic cactus soil that I got at a fancy gardening store in Brooklyn, and my cacti did nothing. After I moved, I replanted them in cactus soil that I got at Walmart, and they seem to love the cheap Walmart stuff. I've been wondering if there is some normal home product that I could give them every once in a while to give them a boost.

Of course, delivery is wonderful for people who are home-bound. The neighbors are two able-bodied UW-Madison professors with a teen son. It's obvious that they shop because they have money.

Every day, I see my sisters' neighbor getting packages delivered. The Amazon truck comes, the UPS truck comes, the DHL truck comes, the USPS truck comes, the FedEx truck comes. I am not exaggerating when I say the delivery madness happens EVERY day. The conspicuous consumption makes me ill. They must spend every minute of their day on a computer shopping. It is maddening to me how much money and resources these people are using.
Meanwhile, I do everything possible to avoid buying new things.

OMG! OMG! OMG! The news of Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter starring in "Waiting for Godot" gives me a reason to live another year! I wonder who will play Pozzo and Lucky. I didn't have to read the article to know Keanu would portray Gogo. He 100% fits the part. After working on the production of "Godot" at Theatre for a New Audience last year, I adore the play.
I never thought about it before, but Bill and Ted are very much like Didi and Gogo.
